Atlantic Canada Feels Neglected by the Liberals

Oh, boo hoo:

On Oct. 19, 2015, 39 per cent of Canadians who voted voted Liberal, electing Justin Trudeau and the Liberals to government. In a matter of weeks they will have been in office a full year. Many remain concerned with the odd priorities of the current government: I have yet to meet a Canadian who has raised electoral reform or legalization of pot as their top priorities. Nor has the massive deficit spending or the repeal of sound economic policy such as pension reform and First Nations financial transparency received a ringing endorsement. Governing is more than the undoing of previous policy and an endless string of photo-ops or selfies. Yet setting its own agenda is the government’s prerogative, and time will tell.

I’m going to have fun on this thread for a while.
It’s such a rich vein of ore.
Watching Trump introduce Farage on the yootoob right now.
      Fucking master stroke.

  • Clausewitz

Now the folks in the Maritimes know how blacks in the US feel about Democrats.

    • dance…dancetotheradio

The Maritimes can’t even field a CFL team.
Mind you Winnipeg hasn’t either since 1990.

  • J. C.

Don’t blame me, I voted Conservative… Personally, as long as Trudy is in the PM’s chair, I’m quite content to be ignored by Ottawa. The less he’s focused on us, the less he can f*** things up on us, although the Provincial Libs are giving it a pretty good shot! (I didn’t vote for them either) 😉

    • Dave

Too bad there are no REAL conservatives to vote for.

      • dance…dancetotheradio

There could be but we have to figure out what that is without the attack points the left hits on.
It has to be so rational and reasonable that no one in their right mind could take any attack on it without asking what the fuck.

    • dance…dancetotheradio

As long as he talks and does fuck all then okay.

  • G

Suffer bitches. You voted for them.

    • dance…dancetotheradio

      Every election they vote Liberal.
Perpetuating their seasonal industries and pogey.

  • Billy Bob Thornton

They would be better inclined to vote for the party I support which is the Progressive Canadian party headed by the honourable Sinclair Stevens at http://pcparty.org.

After all in 2000 Joe Clark’s Progressive Conservatives had much more in common than the Reform/Alliance party of Manning then Day and then Harper.

    • WalterBannon

      Humbug

Anything calling itself progressive is only worth pissing on and is just the liberals by another name.

There are no electoral choices for real conservatives anymore.

I would rather see civil war than vote for any of the current crop of politicians ever again.

      • Billy Bob Thornton

Canada has never been libertarian. We have always been for nation-building.

Even the party calls itself an extension of the party from 1942 to 2003.

A progressive is not a socialist or liberal. There are even centre-right progressives.

The fact of the matter is without a centralist party Canada will have a civic war and no opportunity to heal.

        • Billy Bob Thornton

          Civil*

        • dance…dancetotheradio

I don’t need the Maritimes, Quebec or Ontario.
          Fuck off.
          I’m a proud flatlander.
I’ve got more in common with Drunk by Noon than any of those eastern bastards.
And I’d move to Texas in a heartbeat if I found a job there.

      Progressive means state control.

  • Billy Bob Thornton

Everyone should remember how much the Atlantic Accord was bad for Atlantic Canada and Bill Casey became an independent in 2007. I think Canadians ought to remember their history and how shafted Atlantic Canada became under the Conservative party not to be confused with real MacDonaldian Progressive Conservatives that want nation-building, Red Toryism and understood that between the two extremes there is a need for a moderate option.

    • mauser 98

increase their welfare and unemployment cheques.. this will make them happy

      Sunny Ways cures all!

      • Billy Bob Thornton

That doesn’t answer the question about why Atlantic Canada voted in the Liberals. There is always a reason. Like I keep saying, I have two memberships which are one for the Progressive Canadian party at http://pcparty.org and the other is the Canadian Action party. The only way to have real choice is to have either proportional representation or a strong fourth party because right now ideas are dying in Ottawa with the know-nothing Conservatives with B-type leadership candidates, the dying NDP and the Liberals who are basically owning a wide centre and are entitled. A strong fourth party is necessary to give Ottawa balance and a way for good ideas to come out.

This, by all indications, is an era of stagnation and this occurred in 2008-09 with ramifications extending back to even 2005-06.

        • mauser 98

?perhaps.. more money will shut them up past the next election

        • Daviddowntown

Don’t push your luck William Robert.

          • dance…dancetotheradio

William Robert the ass bending Scot.

        • dance…dancetotheradio

          Sorry, separation is the answer.
          Fuck your proportional representation.

          • Billy Bob Thornton

It is only the answer for those that see Trudeau in power. Yes, I agree that he was coronated to be PM, but surely there can be a way to mend ties among Canadians.

And yes I agree very much with keeping Canada together because otherwise we’d be swallowed up by the Americans. Canada needs better policies and I believe full employment. That can only happen with an all of the above energy policy, a mixed economic model and reasonable policies and yes increasing corporate taxes.

      • dance…dancetotheradio

        Fag-ander in chief.

    • And things are working out swimmingly now?

The Martimers wanted hand-outs and they are angry that they are getting fewer of them.

      Tough cookies for them.

      • dance…dancetotheradio

Maritimers chief export is their children.
        Why is that?

  • WalterBannon

    Screw Atlantic Canada

They voted for the liberals, now they can shut up and deal with the consequences of their choices.

    • dance…dancetotheradio

When was the last time they built something on their own?
You can travel that bridge to PEI for free.
But, you have to pay to leave.

  • reidjr

Many in Atlantic Canada had this idea the Liberals would fix all that’s wrong in reality the Liberals or any party really don’t care about Atlantic Canada sure they like the votes but its not a make or break as its a very small population base.
With that said I think the Liberals very well could be moving federal jobs out of the region such as the payroll centre point is these people will regret voting Liberal.

    • mauser 98

Cretin moved gun registry HQ to Miramichi … screwed up yuuge

      • simus1

Not all of it. Quebec got their own autonomous piece of the corrupt patronage pie when they dug in their heels.

        • mauser 98

          worse than i thought

    • dance…dancetotheradio

Any region that relies on federal jobs is not a strong one.

  • Billy Bob Thornton

Atlantic Canada is where mostly older folks live and that is because of the end of the cod fishery mixed with the fact that Atlantic Canada has nothing to offer except in New Brunswick with probably a small resources industry, but for the most part Atlantic Canadians have been largely ignored by Liberals and Conservatives. Stimulus over a few years can be beneficial in a region that is so badly hit by record unemployment.

    • mauser 98

      eastern bums went west

      • Billy Bob Thornton

You seriously believe that if people do not make enough that means they are lazy?

People just have a lot less luck than others.

And it is true that once a depression or recession occurs no one is going to care about the political games of the three big parties.

In essence, saying this East versus West nonsense means nothing to the father or mother that cannot feed their family.

        • reidjr

I live in Ottawa to get ei you need 750 hours while out east all you need is 300 hours you think that’s fair.

          • dance…dancetotheradio

300 hours is seven and a half weeks of full time work.
Crock of shit that it’s allowed.

Withdraw your RRSPs in Quebec and pay 5 percent tax…

    What a sweet deal.

I wonder if the Maritimes have a similar deal?

    • dance…dancetotheradio

      Note to self:
      Do not have RRSPs.

    • mauser 98

      WTF!!!!!!

  • simus1

Atlantic Canada politics usually settles down to a squabble over which talented rent seeker flogging some simplistic boondoggle has the best provincial connections to shake money loose from Ottawa.
