Iraq hangs dozens for Isil’s 2014 Speicher massacre

Iraq on Sunday hanged 36 men convicted over the 2014 massacre by Sunni jihadists and allied militants of up to 1,700 military recruits, officials said.

They had been found guilty of involvement in the “Speicher” massacre, named after a base near Tikrit where the recruits were kidnapped before being executed in a massacre claimed by the Islamic State terror group.

“The executions of 36 convicted over the Speicher crime were carried out this morning in Nasiriyah prison,” a spokesman for the governor’s office in Dhiqar, the province of which Nasiriyah is the capital, told AFP.

  • Did they hang the right/all of the people involved?

    • Hard to tell over there, lots of scores to settle.

Do you remember that film (I think made by Shias) that blamed much of it on some Suni generals selling out to ISIS and ordering their Iraqi troops to assemble at a certain area without their weapons, and in civilian clothes for a last minute 72-hour-leave to go home and then they were all picked up by ISIS cab rivers and delivered, defenseless, to ISIS?
I always wondered how much of that (if any) was true.
It explained a lot, but so hard to separate the lies coming out of that place.

      • It might be a way to sweep various miscreants, involved in this outrage or not.

In the closing days of WW2 and 2-3 after, scores WERE settled. Brutally. The problem with all of this is that this war has no end so there’s never a period where scores are settled. They just keep rolling along. 36 people executed? Why not 360? 3,600? Who cares?

    It should have been televised.
