New Gun Control Idea: Take Guns from Senior Citizens
John Hopkins University’s Shannon Frattaroli sees danger in gun ownership among senior citizens, and pointed out Thursday that California’s Gun Violence Restraining Orders (GVROs) provide a way that families can have guns confiscated from older relatives.
“So much of the dialogue around guns in this country has been around crime, and lately, mass shootings. And the older population is not part of that. But when you look at the suicide issue, it’s impossible to ignore older Americans. With that in mind, any conversation about guns has to include a conversation [about] gun ownership among older adults. There’s definitely more to be done on that issue in the United States.”
Clinton reportedly told FBI Colin Powell pushed private email; Powell denies
The New York Times reported Wednesday that Clinton’s revelation is part of the FBI’s notes that were given to Congress on Tuesday about the agency’s questioning in July that led Director James Comey not to pursue criminal charges against her over her use of private emails.
An email exchange emerged from 2009 between Clinton and Powell during the questioning that revealed that she had asked the former secretary of state about his email practices under George W. Bush, a source told The Times. Clinton had already set up her private email server during that time.
Migrant camp for hundreds of people to be built on Italian-Swiss border
The camp at Como in the north of Italy will house migrants who tried to travel into Switzerland but got turned back – similar to Calais, which is home to migrants attempting to travel from France to the UK.
Last month more than 4,000 people were blocked from entering Switzerland by the Swiss Guard – a number expected to rise with 25,000 people now arriving on Italy’s coast every month.
Now David Miliband has warned the numbers are “not a blip”, further heightening fears of a bottleneck in the north of the country.
They’ve got nothing. The progressive left keeps showing its true colors
It’s no accident that in a week when a “thousand-year” flooding event has huge swaths of Louisiana underwater, with 11 people confirmed dead, many still missing, and tens of thousands homeless, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are nowhere to be seen.
Well, not in Louisiana, anyway. They’re not in Milwaukee, either, where riots erupted over the weekend and the governor of Wisconsin had to call up the National Guard on Monday.
Nor are they in southern California, where more than 80,000 people are under mandatory evacuation orders as a wildfire rages out of control, shutting down a major interstate artery for two days and counting.
‘Not My Fault!’ Merkel Claims Islamic Terrorism Existed In Germany Before Refugee Influx
In a somewhat stunningly desperate effort to change the narrative (after being hit by numerous recent terror attacks claimed by ISIS), German Chancellor Angela Merkel proclaimed today that “islamist terror in Germany wasn’t imported with refugees” adding that “terror existed in Germany before the refugee influx.” Roughly translated, this Junckerian “don’t blame me” lie is the latest effort to regain some public support in her nation (which has plummeted), continuing to position anti-immigrant sentiment as the biggest danger.
Macmillan geography textbook filled with anti-Israel lies: “Jews were first modern terrorists,” Palestinian terror justified
Seriously? The first modern terrorist attack in the Middle East was done by Jews? Whether the King David bombing – targeting a military headquarters – was terror is debatable, but it was by no means the first terror attack in the region. What was the 1929 massacres of Jewish civilians if not terrorism? What about the many terror attacks perpetrated by the Black Hand, the terror group founded by Sheikh Izz ad-Din al-Qassam in the late 1920s to kill Jews and the British in Palestine? (Outside the region, there were many terror groups in the 19th century, including in the Ottoman Empire and the US.)
Trump Plays the Role of President in Louisiana
In a brilliant maneuver perfectly timed to complement his campaign revamp, Republican nominee Donald Trump today landed in Louisiana to witness first-hand the devastation wrought by flooding not seen there since Hurricane Katrina pummeled the Gulf Coast in 2005.
Trump’s arrival on the scene helps him on a number of levels. Most importantly, it provides a dramatic contrast to Hillary Clinton and President Obama, both of whom have neglected to visit a region where more than a dozen have died and tens of thousands have been forced out of their homes.
Confirmed: Islam, Not ‘Grievances,’ Fuels Muslim Hate for the West
We hate you, first and foremost, because you are disbelievers; you reject the oneness of Allah – whether you realize it or not – by making partners for Him in worship, you blaspheme against Him, claiming that He has a son [Christ], you fabricate lies against His prophets and messengers, and you indulge in all manner of devilish practices. It is for this reason that we were commanded to openly declare our hatred for you and our enmity towards you. “There has already been for you an excellent example in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people, ‘Indeed, we are disassociated from you and from whatever you worship other than Allah. We have rejected you, and there has arisen, between us and you, enmity and hatred forever until you believe in Allah alone’” (Al-Mumtahanah 4 [i.e., Koran 60:4]). Furthermore, just as your disbelief is the primary reason we hate you, your disbelief is the primary reason we fight you, as we have been commanded to fight the disbelievers until they submit to the authority of Islam, either by becoming Muslims, or by paying jizyah – for those afforded this option [“People of the Book”] – and living in humiliation under the rule of the Muslims [per Koran 9:29].
Venezuelan president warns rivals: ‘Did you see what happened in Turkey?’
Nicolás Maduro has said the purge Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has meted out on rivals after a failed coup would look like child’s play compared with the action he would take if Venezuela’s opposition tried something similar.
The end of the internet as we know it
The Commerce Department is finalizing the transition of control of the internet from U.S. hands to a “multi-stakeholder” model that includes Russia and China.
None of this was approved by Congress. The administration is acting unilaterally to strip U.S. control of the internet and give it to totalitarians and religious fanatics.
