The Olympic Games: Time to Stop

The Olympics has turned from a celebration of human physical performance that once transcended global politics and popular culture into a propaganda event for the dominant interpretation of global politics and popular culture.

It is no longer about athletics and who wins the athletic competition — it is now concerned with shaping our perceptions of what it means to compete with each other, and why we probably shouldn’t celebrate winning at all. It has become an embarrassing mess for the entire human race, and it’s time to stop wasting resources, time, and attention span on it.

Put it permanently back in its original site in Greece and let it relapse to a gathering of Amateurs not the big pharma driven propaganda fest it has become

The original games had no national teams, just individual athletes.

And they performed in the rude nude. No women allowed.

        • We could make concessions…

You must keep women involved as participants otherwise we might miss the stately majesty of synchronized swimming.
reverting to all naked has a certain appeal beach volley ball is pretty much there already however some track and field events could be plagued by sand build up in embarrassing places

“…beach volley ball is pretty much there already…” – not so in the men’s events. Sooo disappointing.

    • I have not watched more than a minute or two, and that was internet video, corruption on that scale has no appeal to me.

      No, no, no, not Greece.
The Olympics were the Trojan horse that allowed Greece to both lie their way into the EU and borrow the money for the Olympic Games of 2004.

I don’t know where putting pine resin in their wine fits in but it has to be a cry for help

I don’t recall watching anything from the summer olympics for over 20 years, though I could stand to be corrected for a couple videos here and there. And aside from the odd hockey game, the same holds true for the winter ones in the last 16 years.
Overall I just see no value in them, and don’t understand why people suddenly care about sports they would never watch at any other time.
