Dan Rather calls for public shame for Donald Trump supporters

Rather appeared horrified by Trump’s comment, struggling to explain his shock.

“By any objective analysis, this is a new low and unprecedented in the history of American presidential politics,” he said.

Rather challenged the media to hold Trump accountable for his words, urging them to do more to try to shame his supporters.

“We will see whether major newscasts explain how grave and unprecedented this is and whether the headlines in tomorrow’s newspapers do it justice,” he said. “We will soon know whether anyone who has publicly supported Trump explains how they can continue to do.”More.

Reality check: Never mind that Rather destroyed the careers of a number of journalists when he ran with the fraudulent George Bush air force story in 2004: It seems to make no difference to Rather whether the media audience sympathizes with Trump in this matter or not.

That tells us a lot about the new role of media. They have a constantly diminishing faithful audience, and it shows in their attitudes. Rather isn’t even interested in knowing whether whatever Trump said appeals to voters or not. Because his fabled network , still a leader, is coping with the fact that the TV audience is way down.

He also lied about Dallas high school (schools?) students cheering Kennedy’s assassination too. That one got him out of being just a local reporter and onto the national news team.

We can only wonder what top notch satirists like Gilbert and Sullivan might have done with the stupidity and hypocrisy wrapped in self righteousness that is the media.

“As some day it may happen that a victim must be found,
      I’ve got a little list — I’ve got a little list
Of society offenders who might well be underground,
And who never would be missed — who never would be missed!
There’s the pestilential nuisances who write for autographs —
All people who have flabby hands and irritating laughs —
All children who are up in dates, and floor you with ’em flat —
All persons who in shaking hands, shake hands with you like that —
And all third persons who on spoiling tête-á-têtes insist —
They’d none of ’em be missed — they’d none of ’em be missed! ”

“This just in! We’ve concocted a new rumour about Donald Trump and will be repeating it continuously throughout the day until it’s been proven embarrassingly false or we have a more egregious slander to report. We’ll have more for you on this shocking story as it unfolds.”
