Venezuela’s new decree: Forced farm work for citizens

In a vaguely-worded decree, Venezuelan officials indicated that public and private sector employees could be forced to work in the country’s fields for at least 60-day periods, which may be extended “if circumstances merit.”

To all my socialist friends, this is what the end game looks like.

    • BillyHW

Next time we’ll do socialism right. Promise.

      • terrence22

That is what all socialist say, sooner or later.

        • Surele Surele

It was a repeated mantra every few years, when they were ‘cleaning’ up the Party from the enemy of the day.

    • Alain

Oh, but the end has yet to be reached.

    • Ed

Brown people, working the fields, without compensation. Sounds a lot like slavery… except it can’t be, because the left is doing it.

    • Cat-astrophe

I looked at the headline: “Venezuela’s new decree: Forced farm work for citizens”
And knowing where the “Leader” is from, my very first thought was:
“Its beginning to look a lot like Cuba”, complete with the melody.

  • BillyHW

I like how only present workers will be forced to do this. If you are a welfare bum you can stay on your lazy ass.

    • Alain

I doubt they have welfare bums there. That is more the folly of the West.

  • terrence22

This really is slave labour – and most, if not all, socialists end up using it; if they do not, no work will get done

    • Alain

Communism depends on slave labour while those running the show live the high life.

      • terrence22

The 1% has more than they can ask for in commie and socialist hellholes

  • Surele Surele

Legislation in the 50s gave the Polish government the right to force people to work wherever they deemed to be ‘needed’. It was valid for three years, after which period workers could move to another workplace.

  • Martin B

Bernie could use at least 60 days of forced farm work.

    • dance…dancetotheradio

He got kicked out of a commune for being a dog fucker.

      • Maggat

        Literally or figuratively speaking?

        • dance…dancetotheradio

Figuratively, but when I was in the hotel business it pretty much meant the same thing.

  • canminuteman

Non of the people in the picture look all that skinny, given that they are starving.

  • Brett_McS

Work will make you free, comrades!

  • Alain

Actually I kind of like the idea in that it would be great for all our armchair socialists/communists to be ordered to do. Now that would include all members of and voters for the Liberal Party, the NDP and the Green Party. I could enjoy seeing that.

Tommy Muckliar and Lizzie May hold hands and smile mistily at each other?

  • Hard Little Machine

    Sounds good to me.

  • Allan

Just like in Mao’s China. No one ever seems to learn from history. Probably because it isn’t taught in schools any longer.
