At least 19 people have been killed and 20 others injured after a man armed with a knife attacked a facility for disabled people in the town of Sagamihara, outside Tokyo, according to local news agencies.
Japanese media said staff called police at 2.30am local time with reports of a man armed with a knife on the grounds of the Tsukui Yamayuri Garden facility.
A man in his 20s was later arrested after turning himself in at a local police station.
The NHK news agency said the suspect is a former employee at the facility.
