Police in Brazil have arrested a group of people who were allegedly plotting to carry out terrorist attacks on behalf of the Islamic State (ISIS) group during next month’s Summer Olympics in the South American country.
The suspects were arrested in São Paulo and Paraná, according to a report from the Brazilian newspaper O Globo. It said the group, which includes one minor, had been recruited by the Islamic State through the internet.
Other details about the alleged plot were not immediately available, but Brazilian Justice Minister Alexandre de Moraes is expected to address the media later on Thursday. There was no word on how many people had been arrested.
