State Dept: ISIS Sympathy in Middle East Due to High Unemployment, ‘Market of Unhappiness’

(CNSNews.com) – The State Department’s Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy, Rick Stengel, said that in many of the countries where ISIS is searching out sympathizers, “there’s high unemployment, there’s lack of education, there are governments that don’t necessarily value free speech — so there is this market of unhappiness that exists already.”

Stengel was testifying before the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday about the State Department’s efforts to counter the terrorist group’s online messaging.
