And Now For Something A Little Different…

I’m still on the mend and all things considered, I’m doing reasonably well and for that I’m grateful. Your thoughts and prayers were encouraging, and for that I thank all of you.

I’ve stopped smoking, gotten a bit more active, and I’m trying to do things a little bit differently. I’m mostly successful, but I’m still not where I was back in April. I am pretty sure I’ll make a mostly full recovery, so in that sense I got lucky, if you can call a guy that gets seven pulmonary embolisms and then has it misdiagnosed as pneumonia “lucky”.

The other reason I’m checking in is that I decided that I’m going to full-on “cut the cord” with my cable TV and telephone provider and just try to get by with an Internet connection and (horror of horrors) a smartphone. I broke down and bought a smartphone solely to have something to transfer my landline telephone number to when I end my terrestrial phone service shortly. Fortunately Amazon just unleashed their Android Blu phone for a scorching $59.99. I figure at that price point it can be the world’s crappiest cellphone and I’m still ahead of the game. It arrived today, and for what I paid, I’m pretty impressed. I still hate the idea of being reachable on a cellphone, so I’ll start by just keeping it at home, but from a general utilitarian standpoint, I probably should keep it on me like a normal person. We will see.

BLU R1 HD – 16 GB – Black – Prime Exclusive – with Lockscreen Offers

I have no idea if this Amazon phone is available outside of the U.S., or at what price, so for my Canadian friends that have Amazon Prime, that are also looking for the world’s cheapest Android smartphone. The “Amazon offers” are not at all obtrusive and that more than makes up for Amazon subsidizing half the cost of an already unlocked and dual-SIM phone. So, click the Amazon link at the right and search for the “BLU R1 HD – 16 GB”. while you are at it, go ahead and grab the “Samsung 64GB EVO Class 10 Micro SDXC Card” for another twenty bucks and you will have more storage than you will likely ever need for that thing. There is a writeup on the phone HERE. They seem to really like it too.

Check it out, but remember, click the Amazon link on the right first. It helps keep this site going, and it’s just a nice thing to do for our very nice host.

That is all for now, but I’ll keep you all updated on my cord-cutting journey as well as any counter jihad news as it becomes available. I’m still on the mend, but I’ll be more active in the future.

Since you have cut your “cord” but still have high speed internet – have a look at this plenty of content including live TV from around the world.
BTW best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Sounds like you’re doing better since jumping out of the 727, DB. Keep it up. I’m on my second Android now, a Samsung S5 and love it.

My favorite feature is the camera and backing the photos to Google Photos. It’s a great way to share photos or have as a backup.

This is too coincidental! Just yesterday, it was reported that the US government had called off the 45-year search for D.B.Cooper. And here you are, re-emerging on BCF, with harrowing tales of health crises and all.

    Very strange.

Welcome back, DB. Good to hear from you again…..

You beat me to it. I read that also.

Nice to hear that you are on the mend D.B. Cooper. I have some other good news for you and that is, after decades of searching, the FBI has officially decided to stop looking for you. The FBI decided to “direct resources” elsewhere but haven’t closed your file completely and will continue accept new information. 🙂 Stay safe.

Kudos to you for quitting smoking.
