Bangladesh police storm restaurant where Islamist militants hold hostages

Commandos stormed a restaurant in an upscale area of Bangladesh’s capital early Saturday, hoping to free dozens of hostages held by Islamist militants following an hours-long standoff.

Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan, a deputy director of Bangladesh’s Rapid Action Battalion Force, told Reuters there was “intense gunfighting on.” Bangladeshi police told Reuters that one hostage escaped soon after the rescue operation began.
