Why I Don’t Like Gas

This occurred this evening, not far from our home. Looks like a gas explosion.

Across the street from us a small strip mall was destroyed in an explosion 15 years or so ago. I realize the odds are long but still I would never have gas heating.

never have gas heating ? then oil or Wynne green electricity?
this will be a case of arson , owner tampering or unqualified installers
    ..gas is safe

These days my first assumptions are either a Meth Lab or some guy named Moe having an oppsie with his Canada Day ISIS festival package.

yes… right…both far more likely than a malfunction

News reports are attributing it to a natural gas explosion with the Star carrying a report that notes found at the scene read like a suicide note: According to a text message conversation, these pieces of paper were collected by the friend on the street in front of the destroyed house, put in a grocery bag and handed off to police.

“Dear God, as of next week everything will fall apart for us,” begins the note.
It goes on to say: “We owe mortgage, company, house taxes, water bill, gas bill, hydro bill” and “our outside looks like crap, unkept lawn, overgrown plants, bricks on wall cracking.”

The note concludes: “The upstairs bathroom electricity is off, the back bathroom shower has problems and we have No Money to fix or pay anyone.”

So Kathleen Wynne did it then.

      • Exile1981

go for meth lab if it’s a gas explosion or if multiple detonatiobs assume a suicide vest went off early and started a gas explosion.

  • Drunk_by_Noon

    Scaredy cat.
I love a good gas explosion.
Even a very small one in your immediate vicinity will definitely get your attention.

I solder a lot at work.
And I love the smell of flux in the morning.

  • Earl Wertheimer

Gas works without electricity, so when the power goes out…

    • Clausewitz

That’s why Wynne wants to ban gas. All of her eggs for raping the taxpayers are in the electricity basket.

      Cold but still standing.

        also got my hobo stove

I used to occasionally pass there going to work by bus up until 1.5 years ago or so.

There is nothing wrong with gas, if you are worried about it, you can go to home depot and spend $70 on a nat.gas/propane/CO detector. In addition, you will smell the additive gas long before you get to ignition territory.

after doing a bit of searching, the public white pages listing for the address doesn’t immediately jump out as a member of RoP.

from the information on CP24, 700 households are affected by this incident, and there won’t be any more informational updates until 8 am tomorrow.

When I was in school I got a summer job working for the gas company.
I was a gasshole if you will.
That fucking mercaptan is wicked shit.
I don’t think I got the smell out of my nose until Christmas of that year.

      • ghost of benghazi

Just a little dab will do it.

      • Exile1981

I prefer working upstream before they add the mercaptan.

The debris field also looks bigger than the 2003 explosion in Etobicoke, though not as big as the Sunrise 2008.

  • Petrilia

I feel the same same way, but my family says we are nuts to pay $400-600/month for electricity but at least my house doesn’t look like that.

    • Bataviawillem

That is a lot of money for heating.
Most people I know including myself heat with gas for around $100.-

    • ghost of benghazi

Houses burn down from electrical fires. So there is that then.

  • Norman_In_New_York

My brother has had gas heat for more than 25 years and during that time he hasn’t required a service call or any equipment maintenance.

    • canminuteman

Me too. I also have a gas stove, and when I need a new drier I will get a gas drier. Like has been pointed out gas really stings, long before you have enough to get an explosion like that. It was either deliberate or Darwinian.

  • Raymond Hietapakka

…would a Gas explosion not have a resulting fire from the escaping product?

    • marty_p

Gas (both NG and Propane) requires a specific gas to air mixture to be flammable. Too much gas – no burning. Too little gas – no burning.

      • Clausewitz

Also, remember that Red Adair used to extinguish oil well fires with dynamite. Pretty much the same principle.

  • Spatchcocked

I always shut off electrical heat source….permanently………then install cast iron gas fireplaces either end of house…..a few fans and bobs yer uncle…..pleasing to look at and ultra efficient.

Close the goddamn door will you!!!! Those are dollars flying out the door ferkrissakes…..ditto the fridge….I was also proud to be known as the shower Nazi……used to bang on the bathroom door….yer gonna dissolve in there goddamnit that’s long enough goddamnit….

Saved thousands of dollars for fags and beer over the years…….it’s ALL about me really…
……as is right and proper since I was the bull goose goddamnit……I was the goddamn CEO.

I run things like a Royal Navy frigate goddamnit.

      No barnacles on you.

How many fires are started by bad electrical wiring?
