Venezuela protests: Teenager and four-year-old girl among the dead as country is rocked by unrest over food shortages
The unrest over a drastic lack of food and medicine has seen dozens injured and hundreds arrested across the febrile Latin American oil state, as its leftist President Nicolas Maduro tries to stave off opposition calls for a referendum on his leadership. Tumbling global oil prices have left the government of Mr Maduro’s PSUV party unable to finance the import of even basic foodstuffs. Most of Venezuela suffers daily, three-hour power cuts.
Alabama congressman says Muslims are trying to ‘kill every homosexual in America’
Speaking on the Matt & Aunie show on WAPI radio in the wake of a mass shooting in a gay nightclub in Orlando, congressman Mo Brooks was asked why “progressives” are “running away from the reality” that anti-gay sentiment is “mainstream Muslim thought”.
“On the one hand, [Democrats are] trying to appeal to the gay community, but, on the other hand, they’re trying to also appeal to the Muslim community, which, if it had its way, would kill every homosexual in the United States of America,” he said.
Kenyan court rules anal exams to test sexual orientation are legal
The high court in the coastal Kenyan city of Mombasa made the decision after reviewing the case of two men who were arrested in a bar in February 2015 on suspicions of engaging in gay sex. The two men were subjected to the procedure, as well as mandatory HIV and hepatitis B testing, and subsequently protested their treatment as degrading and abusive.
A judge on Thursday dismissed their petition.
The Past Six Presidents Have All Used The Executive Power To Block Certain Classes Of Immigrants
Section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 states: “Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.”
Law Professor Jan Ting of Temple University told The Daily Caller that “absolutely and without any doubt” does existing law allow Trump to restrict immigration of certain nationalities or religious groups.
Canadian court rules against Iran in terror case — but will Trudeau side with the mullahs?
Stephane Dion has begun negotiations to re-open full diplomatic relations with Iran. The same Dion who couldn’t fight his way out of a wet paper bag.
What about his boss, Justin Trudeau? Well, he’s taken foreign policy advice from his brother Alexandre, who’s made propaganda films for the dictatorship of Iran.
So how much longer do you think Trudeau will keep Iran on our state terrorists list?
UH OH: Gun store says they DID REPORT Orlando Shooter to FBI weeks before massacre
Robbie Abell, co-owner of Lotus Gunworks, told the Wall Street Journal Mateen came into the store in South Florida in May and asked for heavy-duty body armor like the kind used by law enforcement.
Staff at the store, which does not sell body armor, felt it was a strange demand.
After his request was denied, Mateen asked to buy bulk ammunition.
Though Lotus does sell ammunition, staff shut down his request and refused to sell him anything else.
They subsequently reported the incident to the FBI, Abell said.
Facebook bans Allen West page admin for post saying 3,000 killed on 9/11 without guns for 30 days
On Wednesday, a page administrator of the popular Allen West Republic Facebook page — a page with over 400,000 supporters — reached out to say she was banned by Facebook for 30 days over a graphic that simply observed that 3,000 innocent people were killed on 9/11 without guns.
Update: At about 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time, I heard from the administrator in question, who tells me that LtCol. West contacted her after someone sent him this article. She is now back on Facebook and received an apology from the social media giant, which claimed the action was an “accident.”
Seems like there’s been a lot of that happening lately…
‘Hell No!’ Cashier refuses to serve Trump backers
Shannon Riggs and her cousins were famished after attending a Donald Trump rally last week in Richmond, Va., so they decided to drop by Cook Out – a regional restaurant chain known for its tasty burgers.
The group was decked out in Trump swag – from T-shirts to those iconic red hats emblazoned with the campaign’s slogan: “Make America Great Again.”
But apparently the cashier at the Cook Out in Colonial Heights does not believe Trump can make America great again. Nor do they believe his supporters deserve to eat Cook Out hamburgers.
Prof. blames conservatives, Christians for Orlando shooting
A University of Buffalo professor claims it was not Islamic radicalism that motivated Omar Mateen to slaughter 49 people and maim 50 others last weekend, but rather Republican, conservative, and Christian beliefs.
Jonathan Katz, an Associate Professor of visual studies who was one of the first full-time American academics to be tenured in gay and lesbian studies, postulated in an interview Tuesday with the university’s faculty and staff paper, the UB Reporter, that terrorism and ISIS are distractions from the actual issue of anti-gay violence, which he claims is promoted by conservative rhetoric.
He goes on to blame “the Right” for deliberately using ISIS as a strategy to misdirect Americans from the “pattern of anti-gay violence in the U.S.,” and then urges Americans not to allow this tragedy to “be used by our enemies in ways that obscure its cause.”
Reddit Will Adjust Algorithm To Censor Trump Supporters Following Orlando Shootings
The change is an explicit response to the Islamic terrorist attacks in Orlando, Florida. In their aftermath, /r/all was dominated by posts from /r/The_Donald, the primary community for Trump supporters on the site.
/r/all collects and ranks posts on Reddit according to how many “upvotes” they receive from users. A post typically requires several thousand upvotes to reach the front page of the site.
In the aftermath of the Orlando shootings, mass censorship on /r/News, Reddit’s main forum for discussing breaking news, led to a massive user exodus to /r/The_Donald, a community known for its commitment to free speech. According to The Daily Beast, more than 11,712 subscribed to the Trump-supporting subreddit on Sunday alone, making it the most successful day in the community’s relatively short history.
