After Orlando: What America Can Learn from Israel’s Culture of Preparedness

The Orlando massacre is especially devastating because American society remains wholly unprepared for further attacks of this nature. While the events of September 11 left indelible scars on our collective psyche, they are rapidly receding further into the past and do not represent the “new normal” of terror patterns. Until last December’s San Bernardino attack, Americans had lived under the threat of terrorism for more than a decade without any further major terror events. But these attacks highlighted the unsettling reality that there are a plethora of soft targets in the United States and that ISIS and their ilk will not hesitate to engage them.

America can’t learn anything from anyone ever. Arrogant.

    • The article assumes people want to overcome these acts of terrorism. If that were so, Saudi Arabia would be glass and Osama bin Laden would have been caught forty-eight hours after the September 11th attacks.

America is unlikely to learn from Israel. Unlike Christians, Joos are under no obligation to love their enemies, while unlike the pc crowd, Joos don’t have to pretend they have no enemies.

American entry into World War II began with a declaration of war and the entire country was mobilized. Civilians were instructed in civil defense against any enemy attacks and goods were rationed to boost the priorities of the war effort. Winning wasn’t everything, it was the only thing. 9/11 killed more Americans than Pearl Harbor, but instead of a declaration of war, we got a half-assed congressional resolution, instead of civil defense, we got homeland security, and instead of mobilization, we were told to go about our business and let the government professionals handle it. What has happened since was entirely predictable, with two presidents forming a Mount Rushmore of incompetence and room on the mountain for more.

Israel is at war and every citizen knows it. It has a military draft of both sexes, and while we might marvel at the hotness of the girls in uniform, the Defense Ministry is dead serious about protecting the country. This includes World War II-type civil defense instead of the ineffective homeland security the Feds are fond of.

Orlando :law enforcement officers offered new details about the shooting,
including the possibility that some victims may have been killed by
    officers trying to save them.

Even if that proves to be so, I suggest that had they not done what they did there would have been even more victims. It is always easy for us after the fact to blame law enforcement or the military when they actually do their duty.
