BREAKING: Islamic State claims responsibility for Orlando nightclub shooting

Orlando is now in a state of emergency after the gunman, identified as 29-year-old Omar Mateen, opened fire in the club before exchanging fire with the first responding police officer on the street.

He then returned to the venue and took hostages, before finally being killed when a SWAT team burst into the club and rescued 30 people.

In total, 50 people have died and another 53 have been rushed to hospital – several of whom are critically ill.

Now reports claim Mateen called 911 before the shooting and swore allegiance to Islamic State, according to NBC News.
