That’s right – Blazingcatfur is on Facebook. Before we resume our usual Zuckerberg-bashing, let us explain why we’re building an outpost in enemy territory.
First, if Blazingcatfur goes down because of a local or regional outage, chances are you’ll still be able to reach the Facebook page. We’ll be able to post blog status reports and even continue blogging right there if necessary.
Second, there are groups on Facebook that have the same mindset as the readers and bloggers of Blazingcatfur; they are excellent news sources and we anticipate being able to bring you more breaking news and citizen journalist news.
Third, and I think I can speak for everyone here when I say this: Blazingcatfur is a labor of love. We want to inform, educate, and hopefully make allies out of strangers – plus have a little fun. This is an opportunity for us to ‘make friends and influence people’ right in the enemy’s camp.
A couple things we want to make very clear are that the blog’s focus will stay on the current website and we will not try to coerce our readers into becoming Facebook members. A lot of you have concerns about using Facebook, and that’s fine – we understand. However, if you are a Facebook user, we’d like to ask a favor: would you please visit the page and click the Like button, and – if you’re so inclined – leave a message? On Facebook, nothing succeeds like success, and having some traffic and comments will help us get started.
Thanks, and we look forward to your comments.
