We now have a Facebook page

That’s right – Blazingcatfur is on Facebook. Before we resume our usual Zuckerberg-bashing, let us explain why we’re building an outpost in enemy territory.

First, if Blazingcatfur goes down because of a local or regional outage, chances are you’ll still be able to reach the Facebook page. We’ll be able to post blog status reports and even continue blogging right there if necessary.

Second, there are groups on Facebook that have the same mindset as the readers and bloggers of Blazingcatfur; they are excellent news sources and we anticipate being able to bring you more breaking news and citizen journalist news.

Third, and I think I can speak for everyone here when I say this: Blazingcatfur is a labor of love. We want to inform, educate, and hopefully make allies out of strangers – plus have a little fun. This is an opportunity for us to ‘make friends and influence people’ right in the enemy’s camp.

A couple things we want to make very clear are that the blog’s focus will stay on the current website and we will not try to coerce our readers into becoming Facebook members. A lot of you have concerns about using Facebook, and that’s fine – we understand. However, if you are a Facebook user, we’d like to ask a favor: would you please visit the page and click the Like button, and – if you’re so inclined – leave a message? On Facebook, nothing succeeds like success, and having some traffic and comments will help us get started.

Thanks, and we look forward to your comments.

I’ll give it 30 days before you’re banned from Facebook. 😉

    • That long?

    • Waffle

They just deleted Ingrid Carlqvist’s account.

  • Thanks Laurie! You are our first ‘Like’! Woo-hoo!

  • Clink9

Not into Facebook but love your graphic there.

    • Thanks. Just put it in the mental file cabinet – one day it may come in handy.

Well, …. I did start one as joke with my kids 8 years ago with our dogs name.

        • I had one about 5 years ago for a couple months. It quickly became too much drama and weirdness.

Now I have a Facebook page that is set up as a news feed – I don’t Friend, Poke, or Game. It’s actually very effective and I have managed to find a lot of like-minded anti-Islam and Conservative groups. Like Twitter, I suppose it’s all in how you use it.

The line “It’s the new Hate Speech” in your banner is obscured by the “Like and Message” buttons in my browser. Is it happening on other folks’?

    • Not me, but if that’s happening to people we can adjust the graphic. Thanks for letting us know, Mal.

  • I have to step out for a few hours – chauffeur duty beckons – but if anyone sees any problems or has any suggestions, please let us know here in the comments. I’ll check them when I return.

The story before this about the labor party has text for an unreleated article in it.

Good, I for one am happy to see BCF branching out to reach the like minded.
Having said that, I personally will not touch Face Book with ten foot pole. Zuckerfool blows with the wind and likes to follow the dictates of people I hold in low regard,IE Angela Merkel for one.

    • 3 days ago I would have said the same thing, and I will not fault you for that opinion. When I realized we could control it and not buy into all the social media garbage, it became a worthwhile endeavor for the blog. It’s something we’re going to try, and even if you don’t use it or like it, Facebook has the potential to make this blog better.

    Is it a closed group?

  • ismiselemeas

I have some facebook banner templates if you need them.

  • Waffle

Strangely cold in here — hell must have frozen over.

    • We’re not selling out – we’re cashing in! 😉

That’s just a joke, by the way. I know you can look at this from several perspectives – consider it a controlled experiment. If it benefits the blog and we don’t feel too dirty, then it’s a net positive.

Please don’t put words in my mouth. I’m in shock. From previous discussions, I thought it was a case of “over poor Pip’s dead body”.

It will be interesting to see what happens. Will BCF be censored/banned/deleted? Will FB BCF attract new like-minded participants or will it be a troll magnet?

BTW — I just sent invites to at least 10 carefully selected FB “friends”.

        • Thanks. We’ll just have to see how it goes – as of right now, I’m optimistic.

          • Waffle

Just checked my FB — so far, 2 of my invites “like” the page.

Heading over to join up as the real me.

I love your tactics, sort of a fifth column. Great chance to shake these righteous idiots up a bit.

  • Dogandcat

    I don’t do Fakebook.
