Living under Islamic State: Fears for Fallujah residents suffering starvation as only 800 make it out

Residents of the Iraqi city of Fallujah who managed to flee Isil told of the desperate situation of those living under the jihadists.

Waving white flags, a handful of families were picked up by Iraqi troops wearing few clothes and carrying little food or water after walking for miles.

So far just 800 have escaped since the army, backed by US airpower, began their offensive to recapture the city west of Baghdad four days ago.
