The World’s Largest Solar Plant Just Torched Itself

Misaligned mirrors are being blamed for a fire that broke out yesterday at the world’s largest solar power plant, leaving the high-tech facility crippled for the time being. It sounds like the plant’s workers suffered through a real hellscape, too.

    Time for a musical interlude

I never much cared for that song myself, though the keyboard is pretty awesome.
Being a tad strange myself, this was more my style … 😉

I love the Doors and the B-52s.

I always thought that the Doors’ lyrics were rather more sophisticated than most of their contemporaries’ stuff. On another note, I had forgotten how good-looking Jim Morrison was – no wonder the girls went crazy over him.

Who was the bass player for the Doors?

          • Clausewitz

Mostly studio musicians on the albums, then Manzerik would play the bass runs on his left hand on the key boards while playing live.

Well, I thought it was a trick question because I always thought the Doors didn’t have a bass player.
The B-52s didn’t have a bass player, either.
Kate Pierson did the same thing as Ray.
It’s most evident on the video for Private Idaho.
Geez, she was so hot and then I found out she was a lesbian.
So many of my childhood heroes have changed.

Jim Morrison also had a great singing voice.

            Not on L.A. Woman.
It’s a contrast similar to early Aerosmith and vaudeville Aerosmith.

If the fire effected any pressure piping then they will spend months checking it for damage and replacing sections.

I was pointing out to a friend this plant produces less than half as much MW as Alberta’s newest natural gas plant that went online around the same time. The solar plant cost over 5 times as much to build, takes up nearly 100 times as much land. Also all of these solar plants burn natural gas to boost the temperature in the boiler. That means they are not “carbon free”.

From a safety point of view a low water level in the boiler is one of the most dangerous situations.

In a conventional plant the water reservoir is above the boiler so gravity can be used to fill the boiler instantly in case of low level. In this solar unit water has to be pumped through multiple pumps up 350 feet into the boiler which is on top of a tower.

In a natural gas plant low water alarm shuts off the fuel flow to the boiler prenting an accident. Most of them have multiple fuel shut offs, some mechanical and some electrical for redundency. In that solar plant a lower water alarm means they have to redirect all of the mirrors away.

    What a freaking abomination.

These types of solar plants have been frying birds in California .
Funny how Liberals think a child is sick for using a magnifying glass to burn ants and yet they can Fry birds , or kill Bats via wind turbines, and that’s Ok because they meant will.

Bandit rent seekers and enviro fascists leading ignorant spendthrift crooked politicians around by the nose all mean well.

    Mission accomplished.
