Five arrested after allegedly driving from Melbourne to Queensland for jihadi plot

FIVE men who attempted to use a fishing boat to travel to Indonesia and join Islamic State terrorists were connected to smuggling networks that could take them to the war zone, police believe.

The men arrested in far North Queensland last night were of security interest to police and had previously had their passports cancelled.

Police say they were incredibly committed to joining the war zone.

The bizarre plot centred on the men launching their boat in waters in far north Queensland to get to Indonesia.

Next time, let them leave, in a leaking boat.

JM, totally unnecessary – setting out into the Arafura Sea in a tinny with 5 pax – they would themselves be meeting Allah (or Satan) quite soon.

      Stupid is as stupid does…

Personally l would have toyed with them. Wait until there near the edge of Australian waters, tow them back 80% of the way, release them and then repeat, and repeat…

Let the crocs eat them, don’t pick them up!

They should have let them get well out to Sea then sent the airforce to sink the boat
