Five arrested after allegedly driving from Melbourne to Queensland for jihadi plot

FIVE men who attempted to use a fishing boat to travel to Indonesia and join Islamic State terrorists were connected to smuggling networks that could take them to the war zone, police believe.

The men arrested in far North Queensland last night were of security interest to police and had previously had their passports cancelled.

Police say they were incredibly committed to joining the war zone.

The bizarre plot centred on the men launching their boat in waters in far north Queensland to get to Indonesia.
