‘A harmless lunatic with the gift of oratory’

‘A born natural orator’: Irish student’s account of Hitler in 1921 emerges

“His purple passages were greeted with roars of applause, and when finally he sank back exhausted into his chair, there was a scene of hysterical enthusiasm which baffles description. As we left the meeting my friend asked me what I thought of this new party leader. With all the arrogance of 21 I replied: ‘A harmless lunatic with the gift of oratory.’

I can still hear his retort: ‘No lunatic with the gift of oratory is harmless.’”

So, he was something like Trudeau then…

    • I would not credit the part time drama teacher with the same level of effect.

      Hitler was a private fag.

        So’s Trudeau methinks. 😉

          Not a private one.

I don’t think Zoolander has that gift. Every time he speaks he sounds like he is reading a script for the first time before going to an audition.

        Don’t forget the lisp.

The Germans have had poor political choices available to them when it comes to much of their modern history. The fact that they thought they deserved much more deferential behavior from their British, French, and Russian rivals once the Prussian instigated federation was achieved was not very helpful going forward.

Many have noted that early Hitler was big on apparently sincere bombast but a careful reading of his speeches left many questions unanswered.

  • I’ll bet Bunchy kicked himself in 1939.
