Bill Nye the authority guy

Following on: Bill Nye open to jail time for climate change skeptics, from The Federalist:

But Nye isn’t just speculating about putting people in jail. He is referring to a specific attempt to use the model of those old tobacco lawsuits to prosecute any company that has ever funded research or advocacy skeptical of claims about global warming. This campaign was started last year and has taken its newest steps recently with a meeting of state attorneys general who vowed to launch “investigations into whether fossil fuel companies misled investors and the public on the impact of climate change.”

The attorney general of the U.S. Virgin Islands—whom you would think would have enough to deal with at home straightening out a notoriously dysfunctional office—has subpoenaed a leading free-market think tank, the Competitive Enterprise Institute, demanding all of its internal communications from 1997 through 2007. Why? Because CEI once committed the presumed crime of accepting money from a major oil company.

This is what you call a “fishing expedition.” The prosecutors are not demanding any specific evidence of criminal activity, because they have no specific grounds to suspect it. They’re just demanding everything, in the hope that once they fish through it, they will find something they can cast as incriminating, or at least embarrassing. It’s a well-known form of legal harassment.

To those who object that this will create a “chilling effect” on scientific debate over global warming, which is the obvious goal of the investigation, Nye says that’s just fine. More.

A Soviet bureaucrat once explained to Malcolm Muggeridge that the main reason for terrorizing people who hadn’t some much was to keep everyone afraid. If they only prosecuted/ persecuted/jailed people who had done something substantial, they would not have the control they needed.

Cry Havoc! And Let Slip the Dogs of Warm…

What a bore this time of year is. There seems to be only a couple of topics the ever shrinking list of approved speakers get to talk about to America’s youth. So Obama droned on about climate change and Mann-boosting hack Bill Nye the Science Guy discoursed on race. Maybe someone switched their speeches.

  • What a menace.

  • This may be a good thing. Because if you’re going to literally criminalize “climate denial” then maybe it will finally force a robust public debate on AGW for the first time. Including scientists with a differing opinion for the first time.

Calling an innocent person a “criminal” is clearly actionable — certainly more so than simply calling someone an “idiot” or something that hurts somebody’s feelings. If Bill Nye starts naming specific scientists as “criminals” because they do not support global warming theory, he may find himself sued into the poorhouse.

I would challenge the coward Nye to name a specific “climate denial” scientist who he deems to be a criminal by virtue of his opinion — truth is a defense but the burden of proof is on Nye to demonstrate that his allegations of criminality are in fact true. If he can’t provide proof of a criminal act, Nye should be sued into the poorhouse.

Presentation by Dr. Nir Shaviv, Racah Institute of Physics — Hebrew University of Jerusalem — debunking AGW theory:

    • Guess what folks? The video has been EDITED since the last time I viewed it — in the original Dr. Shaviv clearly mentions Al Gore and AGW several times and debunks the theory specifically. I just watched it right now for probably fourth time — that portion of the video has clearly been edited out since the last time I viewed it a couple years ago. It’s still worth watching because the evidence speaks for Solar activity itself, but keep in mind that portions of the video have been censored.

We are in BIG trouble — deliberate climate fraud, deliberate Internet censorship of scientific findings that specifically debunk AGW.

      • Pitiful!

        • Okay I looked into this and I think I screwed up — although the vid was in fact edited, more than that it was the wrong vid. The link pointed to the wrong vid, from the climate conference for the previous year (4th annual 2011).

The vid where Dr. Shaviv overtly debunks Al Gore, AGW and the IPCC is from the 5th annual climate conference, 2012. And here it is!:

I was watching CTV Barrie news, and they showed how David Suzuki scared the crap out of a bunch of kids in Barrie, by saying unless something is done in the next few years about global warming, WERE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!!

    • Clink9

Can we just start with Suzuki and not all of us?

    • Exile1981

At some point we have to start prosocuting suzuki for lying and taking money from foreign oil rich countries who want to shut down Canadian oil production.

    • He’s a nut.

        And a pervert.

And yet he hasn’t sold his island mansion yet and moved far inland.

William Gray, recently deceased was one of the foremost climatologists of the 20th century. He made great strides in predicting hurricanes, their trajectories and their frequencies in any given hurricane season. He was a rigorous scientists who brokered no nonsense.

And that’s why he took anthropogenic global warming to be a pile of crap
