Sympathy for the Donaldites

“…Trumpism isn’t merely about unfocused anger – it would be super-convenient to write this off as a temper tantrum that will soon blow over and allow us to get back to the business as usual of ignoring the pleas (which are now demands) to stop the immigration disaster, to address the fallout of free trade, and to stop the useless sacrifice of our sons and daughters in wars we’re too damn gutless to win. But it isn’t. Again and again Republicans promised to solve these problems and yet every single time they’ve lied. Rubio got elected in Florida promising to oppose amnesty then not only fails to do so but stands up with the Democrats and did the exact opposite. And we’re surprised a candidate comes along and points that out?”

I only regret that we have but one Romney to lose for our country.

What kind of tangent is that Shaidle chick going off on?
You need to stand up to your groupies better Cat Man!

On a serious note, I used to think like “K”, but now I don’t.
A non-level playing field in a rigged game just isn’t free nor fair, and so the entire construct of “free trade” goes right out the window when the practice hits the real world.
You have to exercise the most caution in trading with countries that have vastly different living standards than your own, or with nations that have arcane or byzantine levels of bureaucracy that make it easy to hide subsidized goods.
We do have some, read very significant, obligation to our own workers.

    • Exactly, the game was rigged from day one – and they knew that.

Immigration is the single biggest issue facing the western world at this time. Fixing this one piece of broken policy will have enormous economic, health, security and justice benefits, some totally predictable and, I suspect, a virtual treasure trove of unexpected windfalls. The improvement to the national psyche alone will be huge. The left will be furious as the ‘open borders project’ is the turd in the crown of thorns they’ve fashioned for us. Expect international condemnation, riots and bloodshed, but if we don’t get control of our borders all other policy changes will be rearranging the deck chairs. It seems many Americans understand this and some Europeans are now catching on too.
