The Truth About Popular Music

Dead on about the music industry today. The singer/songwriter has been replaced by brain dead producers who do everything through focus groups. Haven’t heard anything of value coming from a major label in 20 years. If you want actual music, prepare to search through small and Independent labels, but don’t expect to hear any of it played on radio.

For me it’s country all the way. I enjoy “classic” country and new covers of old tunes. I rarely listen to pop. (and I spent 10+ years studying classical piano plus composition and theory)

The Sons were a very early Western singing group that included Roy Rogers. Not exactly my cup of tea. As stated, I much prefer the country/rockabilly/swampy and hollerin’ tunes bred in the mountains of Kentucky and Tennessee which extended to Alabama and Louisiana and influenced the great rock and rollers like Elvis and Tom Petty to name just two. The iconic Country singers include Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams, George Jones, Willie Nelson (I could go on and on) and the newest torch-bearer of the tradition, Dwight Yoakam. One of the last bastions of real music and tongue-in-cheek lyric writing.

He goes too far! I half expected him to go after artists like Justin Bieber, David Cassidy, Bobby Sherman….

Independent music is the way to go at this point. Rather than try and fight through the studio system at this point, do it yourself artistry is possible to make a living with at this point, with affordable home production an online marketing and distribution.

This is someone I grew up with in high school.

This video has had volume baked into it at the production stage, making it artificially louder. The shouting triggered me @1:30 minutes.
