Somerville: Is Trudeau taking Canada toward ‘totalitarian utopianism’?

February 29, 2016 (MercatorNet) — Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, seems fond of “whipping”, or forcing his MPs to follow the Liberal Party line. He criticized his Conservative Party predecessors for “whipping out Canada’s CF18’s” in the Middle East and whipped them back in last week.

Contemporaneously, the Liberal government’s House Leader, Dominic Leblanc, announced that the upcoming euthanasia bill would be whipped and Liberal Whip, Andrew Leslie, confirmed this. Now the Globe reports this latter whipping might be whipped back in “because of the sensitive subject matter … It’s possible ministers and parliamentary secretaries will still face a whipped vote, but not necessarily all MPs”.

I doubt Justin can spell ‘totalitarian utopianism’.

  • Liberal Progressive

Euthanasia is absolutely needed to make room for all the refugees who are going to need housing, hospital beds and room in seniors retirement homes.

So it is essential to force all the Liberals to vote in favour of this to ensure the progressive thing is done. Otherwise what is the point of having a majority if the Prime Minister’s Office can’t force through their agenda?

You are joking, aren’t you? Please tell me you’re joking.

      • Liberal Progressive

But I am a progressive and a Liberal so of course I am serious! :>

    • Jabberwokk

Agreed! I nominate you as first recipient of this brave new venture. Your sacrifice will be briefly remembered. Take solace in that the collective will endure.

  • Maggat

Euthanasia? Sounds good to me, may I offer up the obvious candidate for the first trial?

  • El Martyachi

It’s a tall order but he’s going about the business of one-upping his old man. We’re in a world of shit.

  • huron

    sorry rum again

  • In the present historical context, ‘totalitarian utopianism’ really ultimately means ‘totalitarian Islamism’.

He literally has no brain tissue.

Michael Coren on his twitter account is getting really upset at everyone picking on poor little Justin. So just stop it!! Think gay thoughts.

    • G

I used to have respect for that guy, not any more.
I thought his conservative stance was based upon his principles. Now, SUN news has folded and he’s gone full bore lefty. I see his positions are based on whatever earns him a paycheque.

      • Justin St.Denis

Michael Coren is an amoral whore in a psychological land populated by latent homosexuals, cocksuckers, pedophiles and rapists. He’s happy now, so let’s leave him to his buddies…..

“Dominic Leblanc, announced that the upcoming euthanasia bill would be whipped…but not necessarily all MPs”.

Just enough to ensure easy passage of the bill (of course). This is one of the most dishonest tactics in canadian parliamentary procedure: the “partly whipped vote”.

It was done with the capital punishment vote during that asshole Mulroney’s time.
It allows lying leaders (like that asshole, Mulroney) to adopt the moral high ground and APPEAR democratic while ensuring that they get what they want.

  • CodexCoder

I think the last line is incorrect. “I doubt Justin can spell” would be better.

And yes, there are lots of reasons to fear Justin: third generation wealth (remember the Eaton family, for example), the combination of the gene pool (his father, and his rather lackluster mother), his desire to be his father because he lacks any real accomplishment of his own (the overachiever problem), his obvious lack of wisdom because of his protected existence and no real experience in the workforce, no moral foundation (espousing death as a Catholic in name only), post-modern values (no universal absolutes, just personal experience), etc.

Yes, he can be manipulated because he is a stuffed shirt and a good haircut. And euthanasia will work as a doctrine until the state starts to target its enemies (might making right). At that point, it will be difficult to stop (unless you are prepared to die to prove a point).

  • Jabberwokk

Nah he’s just unwittingly building the machine that will in turn un-build him.
