The Devil’s Pleasure Palace

For years now, many conservative writers, myself included, have increasingly urged engagement in the culture war against the radical left. The truth is that we have already lost that war. Having decisively lost the major ministries of culture – the media, academia, and the entertainment world – the right is now in a position of having to regroup, restrategize, and wage guerrilla warfare in order to dismantle the left’s hegemony and retake the culture. How did we get here? To understand the philosophical underpinnings of the left’s victory, you cannot do better than Michael Walsh’s most recent book, The Devil’s Pleasure Palace: The Cult of Critical Theory and the Subversion of the West.

Just got The Devil’s Palace in the mail.

I’ve not started it but I long ago recognized that self-perpetuating anti-Western elites took control of the culture largely because the right’s “Donor class” dropped the ball on culture years ago.

A few million dollars a year would produce a counter culture which could fight back. In book pages, by creating alternatives to progressive education, build little magazines, create web infrastructure which routed around Facebook and Twitter without losing audience.

There is lots to be done but it takes money. It also takes a willingness to be excluded from the cocktail circuits of the Annex and Ottawa for a few years.

You are right Jay, the time is now to field our own ‘hooker army’.
No really, we have to make decency fun again!

I’m real close to pulling the trigger on that very expensive audiobook, so let us know if it’s worth it.

The left having been fighting a war for a century. The right have been busy building civilization. I say let them tear it down and live with the results of getting what they want. Going Galt has never been more attractive.

But if the right is going to win this battle they have to have a standard. There is no more standard of right and wrong because society has thrown out the Ten Commandments. Without that you have no basis whatsoever for morality. Hollywood the public schools and universities have done a good job of destroying what was good.
