Ringleader of gang who repeatedly raped a 13-year-old schoolgirl in Yorkshire ‘has fled to Bangladesh before being sentenced’

The alleged ringleader of a gang who repeatedly raped a vulnerable 13-year-old schoolgirl in Yorkshire is believed to have fled abroad to Bangladesh before being sentenced.

Arif Chowdhury, 20, allegedly left for Bangladesh during the investigation after he was arrested in 2012 in connection to the raping of the schoolgirl, Bradford crown court heard last year.

He is also accused of pimping her out to his contacts in Keighley when he was just 15.

Did he have to make bail?

    • Drunk_by_Noon

Likely released on his own recognizance, you know, to maintain community cohesion.

  • marty_p

Being forced to hide in a shit hole like Pakladesh is a good sentence.

    • Drunk_by_Noon

Not if you are already a rat that feeds on garbage.

  • They should hire an assassin to eliminate him wherever he runs to – don’t let him get away with his crime.

    • I wonder what the SAS has been up to lately.

      • Drunk_by_Noon

The ones that never seem to get any mention are the SBS (special boat service).
Even our Marines believe them to be a little bit nutty.
A very tough lot the SBS.

        • I’ve never heard of them.

          • Denis

keep them on your side. good advice from a SAS friend of mine.

          • I will make a point of sucking up to any SAS dudes I meet.

          • Drunk_by_Noon

            The SAS or the SBS?

Typical SoCom/MARSOC US Marine’s reaction to SAS: yeah, those guys are pretty good, if a bit reserved.
Typical SoCom/MARSOC US Marine’s reaction to SBS: yeah, those guys are really good, but way too insane, even by our bat-shit-insane standards of insanity, but still not as crazy as the South Korean Marines.

That’s about the highest compliment they will ever pay anybody else. They think your average U.S. SEAL Team operator is little more than a heavily armed, entitled frat-boy, and then their compliments are few and far between after that for anyone else, except for Canadian snipers.

    • By the way, inspired by your comment, I just ordered “Vengeance” by George Jonas, one of our better Canadians who died very recently. http://www.steynonline.com/7414/turning-your-country-into-an-insoluble-problem It’s one of those things I’d never gotten around to, but now I have.

Interesting guy, Jonas. I have a theory that Hungarians punch above their weight intellectually because Hungarian is not an Indo-European language. It might as well be Japanese for all the relationship it has to German, Russian, English, whatever you have to learn to be a Hungarian intellectual who can operate outside of Hungary. I believe such things make the brain more flexible.

Spielberg made a very bad film – Munich – based on this book. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vengeance_(Jonas_book) But what an idea for a book! Golda Meir orders special operatives in the Mossad to take out the perpetrators of this unconscionable act of terrorism, whatever it takes, however long it takes, whatever they need to do. It’s actually weird that Spielberg managed to screw it up so badly.

      • Blind Druid

My shallow ass really enjoyed “Munich” mamba. I’ll take a little succour for our cause anyway I can. A little pleasure twixt the daily diet of horror and bloodshed. Peace.

        • I should probably watch it again, just to make sure I still don’t like it. I just remember thinking there was nothing to it. Some films just don’t seem to have any… energy? Reason for existing?

          • Drunk_by_Noon

            Thank you!
That was pretty much my impression of the movie too.

          • CanCon is very important. It re-enforces us culturally. It’s okay, you don’t actually have to watch any of it, thank Jeebus. Just be grateful it exists and you get to pay for it.

          • El Martyachi

Hey, it was a pretty good made-for-CTV-movie. For full effect download the torrent and burn it to betamax.

          • Betamax doesn’t still exist, shirley?

          • El Martyachi

It does, surely. Last time I watched that show was really on a betamax tape. My .. erhm… prepubescent self anyway. It was really good IIRC.

          • El Martyachi
          • I’d actually forgotten this existed, thanks. Michael York, how bad could it be?

      • Clink9

        I loved Vengeance.

Saw the movie when it came out about 10 years later and it had too much doubt and hang wringing.

      • Brett_McS

Some of the smartest people I know come from Hungary. Hungarian (Magyar) is closely related to another European language though: Finnish.

        • tom_billesley

George Mikes attributed to his wife the theorem:
          “everybody is Hungarian”.

      • I must tell you I felt ashamed for writing this comment after I turned off my computer. Too emotional. Rape does not merit a death sentence, in reason – only at best a life sentence, although in truth the victim of rape may be irreparably hurt for life.

But yes, in such a situation vengeance is very sweet, especially if the state does not do its duty and punish the culprits, That this monster was allowed to escape is simply scandalous. I have not seen mention of this case anywhere else, which media silence is also scandalous.

Have not seen the movie Vengeance. I saw Spielberg’s Munich, however, and found it weak too. He projects 21st Cent. PC self-doubt into a 20th Cent. operation, as I recall. I am sure the Mossad at that time was much more efficient and certain of its right to kill the murderers.

        • Brett_McS

Andrew Klavan makes the point that righteous anger is a dangerous emotion because it feels like righteousness – which it isn’t.

        • My main problem with opposition to the death penalty is that I can’t understand why life in prison is supposed to be better. (Yes, I know, maybe-they-got-the-wrong-guy etc. Let’s assume they didn’t.)

Could this man ever be allowed out again, this child-rapist? No. So I wish death on him.

We all die in the end.

The only mitigating circumstance that I can see is that he was a teenager when he did these horrible things. If he’s repented and is now living a life of penance I guess I’d let him off. But I think we all know that’s probably not what he’s doing.

          • BM – I’m not against the death penalty, though it is true that sometimes the wrong guy is executed (but perhaps that would be less frequent nowadays with DNA testing). For murder, and all the more so for murder after rape (as happened in Finland a few weeks ago). In the case here discussed, however, though there was horrible repeated rape and that over a long period, there was no actual murder. However, I would see nothing wrong in torturing such a monster every day all day during his lifelong prison stay.

Really, the problem is with the weakness of our justice system, in which judges give light sentences for heinous crimes, and in which the police are lax with true criminals. If there was true rule of law, true justice, we citizens would feel more respect for the system, and criminals too would not be so uninhibited. There is also a sore lack of moral instruction. I do not agree that young age is a mitigating factor.

    • eMan14

People like that should never be able to flee the consequences of their crimes. The countries that harbor them should not escape unscathed either.

  • Gary

Justin would welcome him here and give him a nice Hotel room and free healthy care plus a welfare check to vote Liberal one day . Our Politicians now run the Police and this rapists can enjoy doing it here while the Police cover it up .

The UK and Germany are in a deadlock for Weeniest Country. Obama has a year to make it a 3 way tie.

    • Drunk_by_Noon

Actually, I think he ran out his own clock.
I think Obama is already in serious lame duck territory.

  • Maggat

And, not a single idiot judge thought about maybe just holding him in prison till sentencing?

  • Physics grad

    Nuke Bangladesh.

  • BruceT

Time to start holding judges accountable for their decisions. Why the hell was he out?
