Shakespeare’s Globe to take Hamlet to ‘Jungle’ refugee camp

Shakespeare’s Globe is taking its world touring production of Hamlet to the “Jungle” refugee camp in Calais.

The theatre company said its Globe to Globe tour, which aims to play Hamlet to every country in the world by 23 April, would arrive in Calais for a one-off performance on Wednesday.

I bet they get robbed.

I am sure the refugees would much rather see a production of the Merchant of Venice.

      “. . . the play’s the thing
Wherein I’ll catch the conscience of the King.”

They’d appreciate the choice of villain, but are enamoured of anything by Shakespeare, having culturally appropriated him as “Sheik Zubair”.

Shylock’s speech will have them heads rolling in the aisles.

Good thing the migrant camp is made of trailers otherwise i suspect the entire cast would be thrown from the highest place, the women molested and the men in tights? well we can only speculate what their true motives are .

Why this choice? From what I remember, the play ends In a bit of a bloodbath with various other characters dying on the way. Go out and do thou likewise??
Wasn’t Hamlet’s father killed by pouring poison into his ear while asleep? They’ll be asking, “What poison was that?” and adding it to the long list of available methods. (Po-210 anyone?)

As a matter of curiosity, what language will this be in??

“…or some Shakespearean scene where a ghost and a prince meet
      And everyone ends as mincemeat.”
