    The really amazing thing about the British Empire was it ran so amazingly well for about 85% of its lifespan and required so few Brits to get involved.

      Some British expats (aka Eurasians) living in Calcutta during 1880’s had seriously planned to overthrow the British-Indian govt. of the time and declare independence.

    The British Empire brought Civilization to most of the world, the Muslim Empire, not so much.

    For much of the Empire Imperial rule and investment was a terrific boost. Some parts, India, Hong Kong, the Dominions have done amazingly well. Other parts, notably African ex-colonies and majority Muslim states have sunk back into pre-colonial barbarism. Some faster than others.

    Mixed bag really. But the 50 years of Pax Britannica were a gift to the world shattered by WWI.
