Why hydro costs so much

Dalton McGuinty and Kathleen Wynne blundered into green energy, without doing their homework

News last week of more problems with Hydro One’s smart meters — 36,000 of them in rural areas can’t transmit data because of poor Wi-Fi connections — set me to thinking.

How did we get into the mess Ontario’s electricity file has become under Ontario’s Liberal government, first under Dalton McGuinty and then Premier Kathleen Wynne?

While we know of one top Liberal who made a killing in wind power, I wonder what connection the Liberals might have, either as owners or lawyers or consultants to the smart meter companies?

    • Good question.

You can bet your bottom dollar that there IS a connection, though. Libs lie like rugs. Some Lib got richer on this somewhere along the line. It’s how they roll…..

Somebody posted before about a Liberal, I think he might have been the President of the federal party, who was involved in wind power.

If you know what that article was, could you please post the link here?

Ontario and Quebec are the highest producers of hydro electricity in North America if not the world thanks to the abundance of rivers and waterfalls we have. Their is technology that exist s to produce clean burning coal not mention we have plenty of natural gas with price at a ten year low. Thanks to the Liberals obsession with an inefficient and expensive clean energy production and the usual Liberal corruption we have come to expect we now in Ontario pay one of the highest electricity prices in North America. We can thank the Liberals for that.

    • They are a bad joke gone horribly wrong and we have to pay the price for their thieving ways.

they are need of a coup

Hydro rates in Quebec are almost half of what they are in Ontario. That’s why Ontario mines in Northern Ontario ship their ore eastward over the border to be processed — have done so for years.
O/T — was listening to the radio late last night and heard Kevin O’Leary saying something about a revolution brewing — does anyone know anything about this?

In PQ they don’t have an asinine law that requires the sale of all green energy produced hydro before you can buy the cheap stuff. Thank a local Liberal supporter next time you get your hydro bill. A quick kick in their ass would suffice for the occasion.

  • A doctor should head your medical system.

Having a politician with no business experience run a large business enterprise will lead to problems.

Exactly . Why are these career bureaucrats total lack of qualification not questioned ?

Dr. Eric Hoskins is the minister and Dr. Bob Bell is the deputy minister of health and long term care in Ontario.

And yet I’m into the 20th month of waiting for an emergency operation that I should have had back in 2014. The doctor who does the operation has been cut back from doing his procedure from 5 days a week to 1 day per week. There’s a big difference between a real doctor, and some Liberal flunky with an MD behind his name.

Politicians are getting too big for their britches. They ought to stop meddling in things they have no business meddling in. And that is a pretty broad brush I’m painting with…

    • Our Liberal government is simply a pack of thieves.

The same problem in BC. Its not the elected muppets that create policy anymore its the heads of the various bureaucracies. Some un elected wonk, probably an arts major figured their collective wisdom was such that they could help fix the world by bringing in smart meters in this case. The problem is wrongfully educated and totally unqualified civil servants are making key decisions that have huge impact on society . You wonder where all the special snowflakes from humanities faculties are going?.. here is your answer. Its more like “Yes Minister” than we all realize.

The smart meter (a.k.a. TOU — time of use) was a scam 30 years ago. Ask me about it. I worked for a little company that was taken in by a con artist who claimed to have developed a t.o.u. meter. He fooled a lot of people — he roped in Hydro in Port Colborne and used the company I worked for to scam investor money.

So we both know that a smart meter would be able to transmit such a small amount of information over a power line carrier.
