Al Jazeera America will shut down in April

Al Jazeera America said today that it would be shutting down at the end of April, having failed to attract a sizable audience to its attempt at a smarter US news network, according to The New York Times. It was a surprise announcement, but it follows a series of very public struggles for the young network. It launched slowly in 2013, only ever making it into about 60 percent of US homes with cable TV, according to Politico. That certainly didn’t help its viewership, which the Times reports struggled to top 30,000 viewers a night.

That Peyton Manning thing is what killed them.

Where will Obama and Turdeau get their news now?

    • Don’t tell Justin about this. Or he”ll include Al Jazeera Canada in the Liberal budget and merge it with the Government CBC.

      • David Murrell

It was partly merged anyway, since Tony Burman, a notorious anti-Semite, moved from being the CBC News chief to being the head of al Jazeera English. I recall that, when the Jew hater made the move, business writers at the Canadian Press and the Globe and Mail hailed the left-wing exec, as the right person to move al Jazeera forward. The Jew hater currently plies his trade as a professor of journalism at Ryerson university.

I can’t say I’ll miss them, good riddence.

For all that we mock Al Gore over global warming, he did a wonderful thing in cleaning Al Jazeera’s clock.

    Will anyone really miss them?

Well, to be fair to them. They had an uphill battle.

They were trying to break into the North American “terrorist apologist” market and, let’s face it, pre-existing domestic “news” services already had that niche wrapped up.

    Will CBC be next?

    • David Murrell

No.The CBC survives given our tax dollars (bribe money from the Liberals in exchange for positive news stories about Justin).
