Racism, real and imagined

“…In Toronto, some disgruntled cab drivers argue the reason neither municipalities nor police are moving quickly to take on Uber is racism, because many cab drivers today are recently-arrived visible minority immigrants.

The cabbies contend Mayor John Tory and Police Chief Mark Saunders would be more responsive to the crisis in their industry if they had been born in Canada.

As a periodic cab user for over 45 years I know, along with most Torontonians, that the cab industry has never been a limousine service and often not a very good transportation service.

This dissatisfaction has been exploited by Uber, but the Uber/taxi war has nothing to do with racism by the mayor or the police chief…”

Racism? I dunno other than Allah works in mysterious ways…

The biggest threat to Islam is the internet and technology and knowledge.
    In other words the TRUTH.
The taxi business is getting some UBER- TRUTH.

The Taxi business is just the start.

Patently false. 6 out of my last 10 Uber drivers were from everywhere except Canada and were of all hues. My last Canadian driver was an absolute uber hottie which made the trip all the more pleasurable. Oh, she was black.

Yeah, come to Mississauga and try to repeat that Meme.

Toronto City council’s lefty mugwumps and their rent seeker friendly attitude to the archaically run crony capitalist taxi industry is the total problem.

    • Justin St.Denis

Milquetoast John Tory is about as exciting/imaginative as a bowl of blancmange.

      • Clausewitz

That would be John (Tommy Shanks) Tory?

There is always some level of government trying to make money out of business through taxes and regulation. In the past this was easy to do with the cab industry. Uber manage to create a new model for the taxi industry which basically managed to do an end run around regulation and the state doesn’t know how to deal with it. I expect there will be more of this with different industries in the future.

cigarettes, handguns out of First Nations reserves got ’em by the shorts

    I like UBER.

  • Petrilia

OOPS, have you not read the hatred toward UBER in England? Throwing their peebags out the window, pooping in bags, leaving them in nice neighbourhoods. Maybe Tube in Toronto is good but in the UK, people in nice neighbourhoods loathe them. just saying.

Many in Ottawa think council does not want to come down to hard on the cabbies as they would lose they muslim vote.

  • Justin St.Denis

When in downtown Toronto, the chances are that if I hail a cab, the driver will be muslim, talking on his cellphone and generally being as unsociable/isolated from his customer as possible. If I use Uber, the odds are my driver will be pleasant, sociable, well-groomed and polite and maybe even bright, funny, interesting etc.

  • Blacksmith

I seldom use a taxi, i can’t stand riding with the filthy muzz, If they would learn to bath and clean their cabs it might be different, fortunately my company is very lenient with car rentals.

Here in Raleigh the problem with cabbies, apart from the fact that none of them know the area and have to rely on Google maps to get anywhere is that none of them speak English. Half the cabbies are Mexican and the other half are from French central Africa.
