North Korea Says It Successfully Conducted Hydrogen-Bomb Test

SEOUL—North Korea said it staged its first test of a more powerful form of nuclear weapon, which expands the U.S.’s foreign policy challenges and highlights the limits of China’s ability to rein in its volatile ally.

An announcer on North Korean state television said in a midday broadcast that scientists had successfully detonated a hydrogen bomb at around 10 a.m. local time.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a magnitude 5.1 earthquake was triggered at that time near North Korea’s nuclear test site in the northeast of the country.

IANAHBE (I am not a hydrogen bomb expert), having only worked on a civil nuclear power station but for what it is worth …

A hydrogen bomb needs the power of an A bomb to make it work. No A bomb trigger: no H bomb explosion. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (or NK) has exploded 3 A-bombs which have produced earthquakes at around magnitude 5.1. This 4th earthquake fits into the pattern.
    1) It could have been a genuine 5.1 earthquake and NK has used this to pretend they have gone further than they have. Question: did they pre-announce a future date for this test? Sounds like they didn’t so this is still a possibility.
    2) They may have tested a possible trigger A-bomb (they did say this was its first test of a more powerful form of nuclear weapon). But they still cannot be sure that it will be an effective trigger until they try it out in an H-bomb. If it was the first test of a complete H bomb, it failed!
    3) If they really are after the H bomb then expect more testing and, if successful, an “earthquake” in excess of 5.1
    4) Expect POTUS to do …?

Yawn. 4) Expect POTUS to do …?”.

He will give a big yawn, before his appearance on “The View”.

    • Wasn’t the H bomb the one that was designed to destroy people, but not buildings? Or maybe I’m thinking of the Neutron bomb. Whatever the case, perfect terrorist weapon — “guilty” people die, “innocent” buildings left intact.

The Neutron Bomb = Real Estate Bomb

Leaves the buildings but the people are gone.

A bombs measure in kilo tonnes of explosive power, H bombs in mega tonnes. Much higher blast on the fusion H bomb than the fission A bomb.
