Texas marks New Year with law allowing one million people to openly carry handguns

It was perhaps the most Texan of New Year’s Day festivities.

More than 100 gun supporters gathered on the steps of the state capitol building on New Year’s Day with handguns holstered on their hips to celebrate a new “open carry” law.

“January 1 is just the jumping point for returning the right to keep and bear arms to Texans after almost 150 years,” CJ Grisham, president of Open Carry Texas, which pushed for the law, told Reuters before the event.

I’m all for the second amendment but open carry is a bad idea, especially with poorly designed holsters like in that photo. The guy in the photo is just asking for trouble.

I should also mention that low capacity ammo clips are a bad idea because they encourage Americans to keep an extra bullet chambered.

Open carry is part and parcel of the 2A.

I would never open carry. Why tip the bastards off?

I agree that is a better solution, but I support open carry who want to do it.

Me too. There may be times – like at the Bundy’s – where open carry is the most prudent choice.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against allowing the option of open carry, but concealed carry makes more sense in almost all situations.

    Good for Texas.

Sweet. Libs are trying to turn Texas blue with Mexican immigration and nonstop propaganda, but it isn’t working.

Watch the crime rate drop. Watch the media ignore it.

It may be boosted in New Mexico, Oklahoma and Louisiana.
