UK orders review on home schooling amid fears children having minds ‘poisoned’ by Muslim parents

“The focus on home schooling highlights growing concern in government over the problem of children being radicalised by religious extremists abusing positions of trust to promote hardline doctrine.

Fears have been raised that parents are claiming their children are being home schooled when in fact they are being taught at illegal religious schools. Ofsted’s chief schools inspector, Sir Michael Wilshaw, has warned of the “serious and growing threat” to the safety of children posed by unregistered Islamic education centres.”

Well not at our homeschooling house. In fact I get static from my older son on my general Islamophobia.

Which is as it should be. Fierce debate is good for the juvenile mind. Makes it grow.

    • Heh;)

Which is the way schooling used to be: The conservative teacher, the radical student.

        We try our best 😉

Our older boy, happily, is a born sceptic. Poor Mum…if she wants to buy an organic thing Sam is on the ‘net demonstrating why it’s bullshit (Thank you Penn and Teller).

Once kids can read, which takes a while to teach well, they are off. The internet means everything is available. A lot of it is pure crap so you need to build up the natural scepticism of inquisitive children. But once they are able to read fluently they tend to teach themselves. With a bit of balance at home you can avoid the jihadis and the stoners and the “that’s inappropriate” school scolds. After that, they are on their own.

Dinners at fun. I have to fight my corner. So does Sam and Max just goads the both of us. My poor, apolitical, wife.

    1. Allow in huge numbers of people from an incompatible culture,

    2. Allow parents to control their children’s education.

    Result: Problem.

    Obvious Solution: Remove (2).

Also works for free speech and gun rights.

    • David Murrell

      Also: remove (1).

Why do I get the feeling that, despite the song and dance about radicalization, non-Muslims homeschooling their kids will receive the bulk of the scrutiny?

    • Millie_Woods

Because these new ‘draconian’ rules have to be tested on white Christians first. After the damage has been done, it’s determined that doing the same to Muslims would be racist, so the ‘authorities’ move on to some other new draconian rule to ‘combat extremism’. Rinse, repeat until the desired results are achieved.

Or this will be used to justify shutting down homeschooling.

  • Blacksmith

Yeah the problem is not homeschooling, let me think there seems to be something else going on there…….. oh yeah its the islam!
