Italian town puts up ‘Christians only’ signs

If you’re planning a trip to the northern town of Pontoglio, be warned: you’ll be thrown out if you don’t respect Christian values.

A controversial sign has been put up by a roadside, telling drivers approaching Pontoglio that the Lombardy town of almost 7,000 inhabitants is one of “western culture and profound Christian traditions”.

The sign goes on to say that anyone caught disrespecting the town’s deep-rooted culture and local traditions would be asked to leave.

Mayor Alessandro Seghezzi was granted permission from the local council to erect the sign at entrances to the town, explaining in a letter that the move is intended to preserve the area’s values and culture, as well as keep citizens safe.

Can we put those up around Canada?

    • Sure;)

All ports of entry, in every country in Christendom.

  • Xavier

Obama will decree that is illegal, racist, and causes global warming.

Love Italy and the Italians! What a breath of fresh air for a change!

  • This is unfair to Jews, Atheists, Buddhists, etc. They should just put up signs with “No Muslims allowed”. Call a spade a spade – because that’s who they are worried about, rightly.

    • Physics grad

This is a no muslim sign, it is not directed at anyone else.

As an atheist I am OK with it.

    • Dana Garcia

Yes, it’s overbroad. Muslims are the problem — just say it.

It’s like Obasma (conveniently) suggesting guns be removed from American citizens because jihadists use them for their daily murder regimen.

    • True.

    • Kathy Prendergast

I think it’s pretty clear who this sign is intended for. The religious groups you mentioned don’t go about aggressively asserting their religion in public the way Muslims do, eg. mass street prayer.

    • Alain

As a non Christian I see no problem with the sign. In fact what I find refreshing are people who are unashamed of their culture, religion and values and do not fear making this clear. This is my take on the sign in question. I am so fed up with successful Western societies bending over backwards to apologise to all the non successful societies for their success.

This would never be allowed in the new Happy Ways Canada. I hope Michael Coren doesn’t here about this.

    • Physics grad

Canada should have a “no Michael Coren” sign.

      • ontario john

That’s no way to talk about someone studying to be an Anglican priest. You must be Corenophobic.

      • El Martyachi

        He’s a less sincere low-rent Piers Morgan.

        • Kathy Prendergast

I seem to recall Michael Coren being very conservative, unless this is a different Michael Coren or he’s changed his outlook.

          • G

He’s changed his outlook radically and in many ways.

  • WhiteRabbit3

    “would be asked to leave”

What kind of pusillanimous response is that? How about stoning, lashing, or crucifixion? Jeez, Pontoglio, grow a pair.

  • ontario john

And here in Canada we protect all groups including communists. Yes, the Liberal government wants the memorial to victims of communism moved out of sight. That should combat communistophobia. The memorial is probably an insult to Justin’s father anyway. “Happy Ways”

Didn’t Heoruxville, Quebec, have something similar? Banning the stoning of women etc. Back in 2007.
    It seems like eons ago.

    • SDMatt

Yes, and one of the hijabis protesting against it was later found to have some connection to jihadism. I can’t remember the details but I’m sure Gary Wood does.

      And everyone laughed at them.

  • Surele Surele

(almost) off topic, but could not help myself. Named this picture, Micheal Moore without hijab:

    • Norman_In_New_York

A pathetic attempt by Moore to stay relevant.

      • Surele Surele

the (un) funny thing is, I found it on my FB with this caption: “Thank you, Michael Moore, for sharing this little insight into who he is and for taking a stand.” Now I have to scrub my hands.

        • Kathy Prendergast

Posting anti-Trump stuff is FB’s users’ new way of virtue-signalling, which they’ll keep doing until a new bogeyman emerges.

      • Kathy Prendergast

He’s looking more and more like a (well-fed) street bum every day.

Misleading headline, the signs don’t say “Christians only” (not that the town has no right to do that, as long as Mecca is allowed to say “Muslims only); they just ask visitors to respect the Christian values of the place.

    • Alain

  • Good sign. I’m all for it.
