A far-right, pro-Israel France? Expert says this is where all of Europe is heading

France went to the polls on Sunday in regional elections and the far-right National Front party, formerly known for its anti-Semitic and anti-immigrant stances but now known for its support of Israel and opposition to radical Islam, came out as a winner across the country.

The regional election outcomes are taken seriously since they are thought to be a bellweather for what will come when France votes in the 2017 national elections.

Though some have pinned the party’s success on its occurrence so soon after the November 13 terror attacks in Paris, one Israeli expert told The Jerusalem Post on Monday that France has been moving to the right for years and is part of an overall trend in Europe of far-right parties becoming the mainstream.

Dr. Esther Lopatin, director of the European Studies program at the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya, said that Europeans are frustrated by leaders who have ignored their concerns about rapid immigration and radical Islam on the continent.

Actually, if FN are pro-Israel that’s very encouraging. Next thing you know they’ll be giving up on the socialism.

George Gilder’s book, The Israel Test, draws a direct correlation between support for Israel and success as a nation, and the reason is that anti-Semitism is essentially a form of envy, and any nation or ethnic class or religion *cough*Islam*cough* that is anti-Semitic is doomed to failure because of the corrosive effect of envy on their culture.

    I don’t believe the pro-Israel part, though.

Neither do I. Antisemitism is in European DNA.

Hmm. 225 years after the Bastille, peasants with pitchforks are looming large again.

    Forget Brexit

If she gets Hollande’s job, you can bet that France will be the first to exit the EU and reassert its sovereignty.

That will leave Cameron hold Merkel’s bag.

  • The “far right” may well, once in power all over Europe, include rabidly anti-Semitic elements. But even if they do, so long as Jews have Israel, this is not a major problem (as it was in Nazi times). All Jews must fight to save Europe from Islam and its Muslim hordes, even if this means losing our place in Europe. The subjection of Europe by Islam would be a disaster for Israel.

We really don’t know about any of their politics (at least I don’t), other than their natural instinct for self preservation. Having an instinct for self preservation is the new “Far Right”.

      • Yes, survival is the issue. But we need to distinguish people and politicians. Some politicians (like Geert Wilders, in my opinion) say what they mean and mean what they say. Others may have a difference between their sincere thoughts and their public declarations (e.g. Trump, in my opinion) – the latter may be useful to the people although they are using the people to get into power, but they should also be watched carefully.

France’s FN still counts a few residual anti-semites among its members. However Marine LePen, unlike her dodgy father, is cleansing the party of them.
