From The Guardian:
Saudi court sentences poet to death for renouncing Islam
Fayadh, 35, a key member of the British-Saudi art organisation Edge of Arabia, was originally sentenced to four years in prison and 800 lashes by the general court in Abha, a city in the south-west of the ultraconservative kingdom, in May 2014.
But after his appeal was dismissed he was retried last month and a new panel of judges ruled that his repentance did not prevent his execution.
Meanwhile, shocka!! Atheists outraged that the Templeton Foundation is funding a philosophy conference on the concept of the Trinity.
Reality check: Most atheists are progressives, and will tend to just not be as exercised about what authoritarian/totalitarian governments do, as compared with what the representative governments or independent bodies that they hope to supplant at home do.
Look it’s not hypocrisy. Progressives want that kind of power in Western societies for themselves. So fighting it elsewhere is only useful as a kind of photo op, not if it detracts from their central goals.
