Last Jewish family in Aleppo flee for Israel

It took a knock on the door in the dead of night and a hair-raising journey through territory held by al-Qaeda militants to end 3,000 years of Jewish history in northern Syria.
The last Jewish family in the city of Aleppo was taken across the border to safety in Turkey last month with the help of an Israeli-American businessman and moderate rebels with the Free Syrian Army.

Whew! They’re well out of it.

A bright spot in the news.

  • Justin Trudeau “forgot” to include them in his select 25,000. I guess old Jewish grandmothers in babushkas don’t make near as good fashion PR as the young Islamist women in cool-looking “Ninja” outfits for the swashbuckling handsome Trudeau. If you want to be part of Trudeau’s chosen people, you have to dress more exotic than that, ladies.

I heard that the liberals announced yesterday that they would only take women, children, and couples with families as refugees from Syria, no single adult men…which is good news, if it’s true. Europe should have had that policy all along.

I hope that Israel will allow Gilda (the one who converted to Islam) and her husband and stepchildren to immigrate, on humanitarian grounds and so they can be near their Jewish family members already there, even though they are not eligible to make aliyah under the right of return law, which I fully support. It’s easy to forget in the midst of all this conflict that there are plenty of Muslim Arab Israelis who are loyal to the state and who also serve in the armed forces, and the Muslim members of this family clearly are no fanatics as they have remained close to the rest of the family.
