Daily Mail: Heavy gunfire has broken out in a Paris suburb after anti-terrorist police surrounded an apartment where it is believed the suspected mastermind behind Friday’s terror attacks has barricaded himself in.
Shots have been exchanged between three suspected terrorists and the police during the large police operation in Saint-Denis, which began at around 4.30am this morning.
Reports indicate the target of the police siege is Abdelhamid Abaaoud, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the Paris attacks. It had been thought that he was in Syria.
French news channel BFMTV says it is believed the other two men holed up with him are fellow terrorist Salah Abdeslam, who is the subject of a major manhunt, and an unidentified ‘ninth jihadi’.
Automatic gunfire and at least seven loud explosions, possibly caused by hand grenades, have been heard as the siege continues.
