Man dies during shopping trolley ride reaching 80mph through Sydney

A man has died and another been critically injured after the shopping trolley they were riding crashed into a car as they reached 80 miles per hour in Sydney.

The unnamed men, both 28 years old and originally from Sweden, are believed to have ridden the trolley down Coogee Bay Road, Randwick, in the Australian capital at around 12.20am on Tuesday.

Sydney police said the accident occurred after the men found the abandoned trolley, deciding to ride it – with one on the back and the other inside it – until they crossed to the wrong side of the road and struck the vehicle.

Late one night, my intoxicated brother decided to lean out the car window and grab a shopping cart. His buddy who was driving then accelerated toward a large green dumpster. The cart was released, the car veered away, and the missile slammed into the empty dumpster with great crashing echoes.

Which awoke the security guard dozing in his car behind the dumpster, who thought he was being attacked. Events escalated from there, soon involving the police, parents, and numerous neighbors. Since we only lived a couple blocks away, we were quickly recognized . It was our family’s first, but not last, public shaming.

    • But a good time was had by all!

It’s not the high speed that kills it’s the sudden stop that hurts.

          Deceleration trauma is a bitch.

…and gravity is such a harsh mistress!

    • Drunk_by_Noon

      You did that too eh?
In your next youth, or the next time you are out drinking and driving, find one of those giant wheeled trash bins, and gently place you bumper on it and then accelerate it up to about 20-25 MPH and slam it into the outside wall of a Home Depot that has shoppers inside.
      Damn near emptied the store!
      Good times

Coogee Bay Road is quite steep in parts and ends at the beautiful Coogee beach. It could have been a sweet ride …

At least the poor guy probably died happy – and away from decaying, muslim-infested Sweden as well.

    • andycanuck

I was guessing it was an inclined road/street. Thanks for the Googling job, Brett.

I had a mailbox that was the frequent target of cars until I sunk a 8 inch gas pipe 20 feet in the ground, filled it with concrete, filled the outer hole with concrete and stuck a new mailbox on.

Car vs bollard is almost as funny as face vs windshield.

I doubt they could reach 30 miles an hour with the wheels on the ground

. aerodynamically it would need to be in free fall to reach 80.

Check out the youtube video “carts of darkness” about hobos racing shopping carts down the hills of west vancouver as they steal returnable bottles from the recycle bins. they go through several pairs of sneakers(brakes) a month.

Saw that, those guys go at incredible speeds and drive it like a Lamborghini, but then they have nothing to lose.

I’m getting concerned about the Swedes. First they let asylum seekers in, then they joyride on shopping carts in Australia. Are they dumb?

And carefree. Just as well they’re infertile as well.
