U.S. officials believe ISIS planted bomb on Russian plane

(CNN)The latest U.S. intelligence suggests that the crash of a Russian passenger jet in the Sinai over the weekend was most likely caused by a bomb on the plane planted by ISIS or an ISIS affiliate, according to a U.S. official familiar with the matter.

But the official stressed a formal conclusion has not been reached by the U.S. intelligence community.

Before everyone starts salivating over just how awesome Putin’s anti-ISIS campaign will be that ‘wipes them off the map’, keep in mind that there is an even better chance he will do nothing but use this to whip up anti-western sentiment at home to reinvigorate his powerbase in Russia.
    We will see.

    • It’s like we finish each other’s thoughts.

    • lolwut?

Well, if it leads to the US not overthrowing dictators and creating power vacuums in the middle east, that is a good thing.

      • Drunk_by_Noon

Kaddafi had the blood of hundreds of westerners on his hands.
        He needed killing.

        • Ed Ellison

The thing that kept him alive for as long as it was, was that he told the Western Europeans that he was the cork that kept the Muslims out of Europe.
          They should have listened.

          • Justin St.Denis

Not to mention his fashion sense, which always garnered extensive media coverage. Cartoon characters are genuinely funny when incarnated, even if they are evil despots.

Hill has the blood of tens of thousands of Libyans on her hands

        • El Martyachi

… a solid succession plan woulda been good.

          • Drunk_by_Noon

And what would such a plan have looked like?
            In those environments it’s impossible.
It’s like calling the roulette ball while the wheel is still spinning.
If you manage to do it, it will be nothing more than dumb luck.

          • El Martyachi

Some arab tribal leader and a handful of other loyals.. backed by hard cash and weaponry. It’s not impossible.. done many times with varying degrees of success. This administration is … inconceivably myopic.

          • Drunk_by_Noon

Suitcases full of cash and trucks full of weapons?
            Think we didn’t try that?
A few times, with a few of them.
We DID, and it didn’t work!

Those kinds of things (unmanaged popular overthrows) are fluid and chaotic situations with unpredictable results, especially if it’s a hostile foreign country that we have not had a presence in for almost 50-years.

          • El Martyachi

Ah man.. EVERYTHING is chaotic and fluid with unpredictable results. Libya is a mess mainly because of Libyans. And if they’re not a “client state” of ours, the bad guys will step in.

          • Drunk_by_Noon

Libya was a Soviet / Russian client state since almost forever, but it’s funny how nobody has anything to say about Russia.
They manufactured this Frankenstein’s Monster over 50-years.
“Lockerbie” was why Kadaffi had to die.
He just had to die, no matter what kind of sweet deal he thought he had with the Europeans.

          • El Martyachi

Oh I got plenty to say about Russia, but it’s pointless really. Its all true, what you say. And Libya remains a chunk of turf that should rightfully be something other than the chaotic mess it is. Or, at minimum, a chaotic mess of a client state for team good guys.

          • lolwut?

            ISIS has a plan.

          • Drunk_by_Noon

Well, if we had a plan to simply kill all non-west friendly Libyans, that would simplify things a lot.
Eventually, we will start to have to think and act that way.
I don’t value the lives of your average Muslum savage anymore than your average Muslum savage does, and neither should anyone else.

          • Justin St.Denis

You speak sense! OMG! And here we thought we were the only ones left!

        • lolwut?

Ya and he also threatened to flood Europe with Muslims if the US fucked with him.

The current Libyan government is doing that same except this time
they are asking for several billion dollars per year or they open the floodgates with thousands of boats.

    • Alain

As for whipping up anti-Western sentiments at home in Russia the present and on-going NATO operations taking place at the Russian border is quiet enough without involving this. One does not need to salivate over how awesome Putin is or even think he is any kind of saint to know that compared to the likes of just about all Western leaders at present, he is heads above them when it comes to putting his country first. I do see the same with some of the Eastern European leaders, but not a single one from the others, Israel being some what an exception. I wish it were otherwise but it isn’t.

  • Ho Hum

I am not buying the “bomb planted on board” scenario that is being pushed very hard by US and UK intelligence and MSM. According to CNN U.S. intelligence are making these claims based on “chatter” they have intercepted. Richard Quest on CNN said “it was time for the Russians and Egyptians to come clean”.

I believe that there is a strong possibility that the aircraft was brought down by a SAM (not of the MANPAD variety).

I have been following Walid Shoebats reporting and he seem to be leaning towards a Missile

    http://shoebat.com/2015/11/04/evidence-is-mounting-that-the-metrojet-flight-9268-in-the-sinai-may-well-have-been-brought-down-by-isis-using-an-explosive-device/

Of course the missile scenario is the last thing the U.S. and NATO want to accept. If in fact this jet with 220 Europeans on-board (including a 10 month old baby 🙁 ) was brought down by a SAM stolen from Libya the U.S. and NATO would be directly implicated. This could doom Hilary’s election chances since she was a leading proponent of toppling Qaddafi. Even Canada would bear some responsibility since our CF-18’s provided air-support to Al Qaeda in Libya.

It is not too much of a stretch to believe that ISIS in the Sinai have SAM’s capable of shooting down an airliner at 30,000 ft.

Among Libya’s inventory is the SA-8 GECKO which has an altitude range of 40,000 ft. ISIS in Syria used this system to shoot down a Syrian Fighter outside of Damascus so they have experience operating this system.

In this video you can see rebels in Syria operating the Gecko mobile missile launcher.

    https://youtu.be/4AaH7Lp9xIo

According to Shoebat – Egyptian authorities have caught rebels trying to bring mobile missile launchers into the Sinai region.

    QUOTE:
“Egyptian Interior Ministry officials acknowledged on Thursday that they had arrested five small groups of smugglers transporting weapons from Libya, including antiaircraft missile launchers, across Egypt toward its border with Israel, raising new concerns about security in the Sinai Peninsula.

Israeli government officials said as early as July that troves of Libyan antiaircraft missiles, rocket-propelled grenades and other weapons were being smuggled by land across Egypt into the neighboring Gaza Strip, the Palestinian territory that is under the control of the militant group Hamas.”
    END-QUOTE:

It seems to me that it is way too early to rule out the possibility the aircraft was downed by a SAM missile and yet the media is in overdrive right now pushing the bomb planted on board scenario.

    • Drunk_by_Noon

So the United States is responsible for Russian weapons sold to Libya and then somehow acquired by ISIS and used against a Russian airliner over the Sinai?

Please, just say that out loud and tell me how it sounds.

      • El Martyachi

There’s no point. In civil war, these are the guys to shoot first.

      • Ho Hum

The US, NATO and Canada provided air support to Al Qaeda rebels in Libya who overthrew Qaddafi which allowed Libya’s weapon’s to be dispersed to Islamist rebels. If this jet was shot down by SAM’s stolen from Libya’s stockpile the US, NATO and Canada have a DIRECT responsibility for this tragedy. As for the US we know that Hilary was the biggest proponent of toppling Qaddafi so if this was a Libyan SAM this will blow-back on Hilary.

I suggest that the American government (think Obama, Clinton, and a few others) is not nessarily representative of the American people in general, just as I do hope that foreigners do not think our new government and its policies to come represent the majority of Canadians. I do not know how your system works, but here in spite of having a majority this government only received about 40% of the popular vote. Yes, it is a strange system in a way, but it is what we have. Anyway it just seems that maybe you take negative comments about your government (remember the Obama administration) as an attack on all Americans or just pure anti-American. I am not trying to be nasty but ask to take this into account.

      • El Martyachi

NATO and the US are responsible for this shootdown.. but the Russians, who literally shot down MH17 in front of the world, aren’t responsible. Or, NATO is somehow responsible for that too. These guys give idiots a bad name.

    • V10_Rob

I too doubt we’ll hear the truth anytime soon.

ISIS is trying a bit to hard too hard to claim credit while deferring proof to some future date. As for America, Russia, and everyone else, they’re pushing blame on whatever ME faction suits their geopolitical needs.

This feels like a modern-day Lusitania.

  • Ann

We know that Trudeau mocked Harper, by saying he saw “ISIS lurking behind every rock and tree”, so we’ll see if Trudeau will now mock both the Americans and the Brits.

Just the fact that there is strong suspicion that this was a terrorist attack by ISIS and or an affliate, Trudeau’s proposed 25,000 Syrian migrants by Dec 31 just might have run into resistances from not only Canadians but also the US.

    • V10_Rob

…”Trudeau’s proposed 25,000 Syrian migrants by Dec 31 just might have run
into resistances from not only Canadians but also the US.”

I’m sorry, you seem to be under the impression we have any say in the matter.

      • Ann

How about the US, would they have any influence?

    • I doubt that Trudeau is moved by reason and facts.

  • Xavier

The only thing that is absolutely guaranteed is that we will be lied to so that the corrupt may retain power over us.

    • Ho Hum

      Yep. See my below comments

      • Xavier

At this point, anything is possible. A terrible tragedy but I must confess to finding some amusement in Egypt’s knee jerk “It won’t terrorism!” and “We dint find no explosive residue!”. It’s almost like they’re unaware that the Russians are going to check those things for themselves.

        Fucking sand monkeys.

        • mobuyus

If explosive residue wasn’t detected I’m sure the Russians could provide whatever kind is needed for their investigation.

  • Ron MacDonald

Unlike Obama, Putin will make ISIS pay tenfold or greater.

    • Ho Hum

If it turns out that a missile was used Putin will bomb anything that moves in the Sinai.

      • Drunk_by_Noon

I’m sure the Egyptians will totally dig that too.
        Well, maybe not so much.

      • V10_Rob

Who knows, maybe it was an American missile, one of the many weapons handed out to whatever faction was deemed ‘moderate’ that week.

There’d be a certain amount of morbid irony to that, considering the downing of MH17 over Ukraine.

    • Bruised Orange

      Let’s hope so.

  • ontario john

I’m sure it has nothing to do with islam. Its probably a global warming problem.

  • Hard Little Machine

At least they didn’t blame the Jews.

    • David Murrell

      But give them time.

      • Hard Little Machine

That was my concern initially when it was clear that the crash site was fairly close to Israel. I’m sure Glenn Greenwald and Alex Jones are furiously trying to manufacture bullshit that it’s the Jews what did it.

    • mobuyus

That’s coming, this all took place not far from where Mossad trained sharks were let loose.

    • ontario john

      Could be Harper.

From Canada’s Dept of Foreign Affairs:

    “Last updated:October 27, 2015 07:44 ET

    Still valid:November 4, 2015 18:52 ETLatest updates:

This travel advice was thoroughly reviewed and updated.

Egypt – AVOID ALL NON-ESSENTIAL TRAVEL

Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada advises against non-essential travel to Egypt due to the unpredictable security situation. This advisory does not apply to the Red Sea coastal resorts of Hurghada (and its surroundings) and Sharm el-Sheikh,”

    http://travel.gc.ca/destinations/egypt

Given what has happened you’d think Trudeau in his role of pm and chair of the Intelligence and Emergency Management Committee would have ordered Foreign Affairs to update their information as it relates to the security of Canadians.

  • Justin St.Denis

Oh goody! Putin does revenge really well. He also is a Class’A’ opportunist. Now he can carpet-bomb entire regions of Syria, clear them of ISIS trash, cement his hero status among Russians and, finally, acquire International Christian Hero status as well. And all during Obama’s last year as POTUS. This could be really hilarious in a sense. Can’t wait for the next episode!
