US Navy sends destroyer past disputed China islands

China reacted angrily on Tuesday after a US guided-missile destroyer sailed close to Beijing’s man-made islands in the South China Sea.

Beijing said it warned and followed the American vessel as it vowed to “firmly defend its territorial sovereignty”.

The USS Lassen passed within 12 nautical miles of at least one of the land formations Beijing has built inside the Spratly islands chain, a significant US challenge to China in one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.

If it isn’t “Yankee Go Home!” it’s “Yankee come here – NOW!”

I wished they would make up their minds.

Why is that shipping lane so busy? Oh yeah, so China can keep selling junk to Americans.
China has nothing to worry about, and can keep up it’s territorial claims as it sees fit.
America will do nothing, unless maybe Trump gets in in Nov. 2016.

Destroyer? That’s slightly larger than a rowboat, right?

Another one of Obama’s pink lines.

Actually our “destroyers” of today are closer to guided missile cruisers than they are the destroyers of WWII.

The US Navy likes to under promise and over deliver on their ship naming classifications.

I hope you are right. One destroyer sounds like the latest version of leading from behind.

The Chinese Navy has zero combat experience, I doubt they would do well once the shit hits the fan.

    • FactsWillOut

The Chinese navy has been around longer than the USA.

they still have a “brown water navy”

        • FactsWillOut

A few US destroyers in the area will fix that in a hurry.

When was the last time it was involved in combat with an experience high tech navy?

“suggests, the missile was fired from a submerged Chinese nuclear submarine off America’s coast”
