Balloon bombs: How some Syrian rebels plan to beat Russian warplanes

A group of munitions specialists working with Syrian opposition groups say that they have found an ingenious way to counter Russian air raids: balloon bombs. They claim that these balloons, which are laden with explosives, can reach jets flying at altitudes of 10 thousand metres or more. They’ve even released videos to showcase their idea. But is this invention a credible way to combat Russian warplanes?

I gues the Russians will just have to use foabs from 30 000 feet.

“Balloons” with a reservoir tip, lol.

What the article does not say is these “balloons” are condoms filled with helium. Too many horny ISIS jihadist and not enough goats to rape!

    • Brett_McS

They may be horny, but the story would suggest that they aren’t getting any.

  • Brett_McS

Oh, look there’s a balloon floating to the ground, let’s pick it …BOOM!

  • john700

What they should do is wrapping baloons in aluminum foil. No bombs. This way, the Russian radar systems will get very confused. Aluminum Akhbar!

They should be fined for littering.

Balloon bombs are a stupid idea. The japanese tried them in WW2 and they failed miserably.

  • eMan14

If only they would put balloons on their missile’s then maybe we’d have less rebels to worry about.

…I mean if it works they will be winning the economic war in spades…

…Multi-million dollar war place vs 15 dollars worth of explosives on a balloon.
