Inside the Secretive World of Tax-Avoidance Experts

“The secret point of money and power is neither the things that money can buy nor power for power’s sake…but absolute personal freedom, mobility, privacy.”

I love articles like this. It’s a peak into a world most of us will never inhabit or even know about.

    And lots of great lines.

One American I interviewed in Geneva told me of a group of his clients in Monaco who sincerely believed they were descended from the Pharoahs and were destined to inherit the earth; he said their utter boredom and decadence were such that their main sport was sleeping with each others’ wives.

I’m done with CRA. I’ve been through 4 tax audits in 6 months… and passed all 4. I got a letter last week telling me they are auditing me again.

I have a good idea why. The first audit was likely “random”; but the auditor tried to disallow all my deductions of a certain type. She even sent me a letter on CRA letterhead with a excerpt from the tax code showing why it wasn’t allowed.

Problem was what she sent me and what the actual code says are different; she changed words in the act to reverse the meaning so that it wasn’t allowed but the actual copy on the CRA website said it was. I called her on it and she kindly told me she hated oil field workers and there was “no f***ing way” she would allow some one who raped the environment for a living to have that many deductions. You should really be careful what you say in a recorded conversation.

So I complained about her bias and it was reviewed by a tax court and allowed and there is supposed to be an ethics investigation into the auditor going on… but I doubt the CRA will actually do anything to her.

A week after my formal complaint was filed / received a letter informing me I was being audited for 2 more tax years that was dated the day after my complaint. I passed each of those and no one was too biased in those audits.
Now I’m being audited for another year.

my brother had a helluva fight.. he did get them to back off eventually

          • Exile1981

Nope just the oil patch evidently. Or maybe it’s just conservatives?

How many other people has she gone after using the same tactic of fake tax code to justify her actions? Where the victim didn’t know to look up the code for themselves rather than take her word for what it said?

This tax issue is why I’ve been less active on line this year. I’ve spent hundreds of hours of time on this.

          • mauser 98

            unbelievable.. staggering. total corruption
perhaps there are some who have organized to fight this

your MP should be the one fighting this

        • mauser 98

there are some lawyers who will fight CRA .. cost? not that many of them

          • Exile1981

I had bad luck at first on lawyers who looked at it and said they didn’t want to piss off the CRA.

I have no problem with the concentration of wealth or extreme wealth, unlike the Marxists who regularly demonize the 1 percenters.

But I do have a problem with people not being held equally accountable before the law, and that includes devious citizenship trickery to evade paying taxes earned in your native country.

If our socialist govts were really about going after the rich they could solve this easily, but it would require them to forgo their subscription to the cultural Marxist’s open borders strategy as well as hurt their real masters.

It simply requires an international treaty that states – you are a citizen for life of the country in which you are legally born. You can not ever change citizenship or nationality. You can however move to another country and even obtain some sort of permanent resident status, but you never become an actual citizen and your stay is subject to conditions. Every person would remain subject to the laws of their native birth-land, meaning all these international loopholes in laws and tax codes would overnight be effectively wiped out.

Of course this would never happen. Some of our politicians avail themselves of these tax scams, while most are just vassals of rich contributors who do.

Paul Martin’s family business was based firmly upon tax scam’s. All the while he was preaching that Canadian’s had a duty to pay higher and higher taxes, he reflagged his ships, fired all of the Canadian crews, and then hired crews from third world nations at one quarter of the pay. Basically doing what Liberal’s do. Law’s are only for Serfs.

I remember vacationing at an all inclusive in a semi-tropical country and one day at the pool bar I conducted a little mental exercise in which I calculated what I was
earning compared to the average native. It worked out to about U.S. $250 K per
month. But if anyone had suggested that I should be taxed at 75% and that income redistributed to the natives, I would have told then to get stuffed. Wealth is relative. And the “wealth” of the “1%” never lasts much more than three generations. The proof in Canada has always been the remittance men who pissed it all away. Typical prog drivel.

On the one hand, very John LeCare. On the other, why support governments which betray us?
