Pair accused of Poppy Day beheading plot ‘told police they bought 11-inch knives for cooking and as gift for mother’

A man accused of plotting a Lee Rigby-style attack on Remembrance Day claimed he had only bought an 11-inch kitchen knife because he was a professional chef.

Haseeb Hamayoon allegedly told police that he had a diploma in hospitality and management from the Perth Institute of Hospitality and Management in Western Australia.

Police recovered CCTV from a shop in Ealing, West London, in which Hamayoon took his eight-month-old son in a pushchair as he helped friend Nadir Syed buy an identical Swiss-made knife.
