France: Marine Le Pen goes on trial over Muslim remarks

French National Front leader Marine Le Pen has appeared in court in Lyon, to answer charges of inciting racial hatred, for comparing Muslims praying in the street to the Nazi occupation.

She made the comments at a rally in the city in 2010 when she was fighting for the leadership of the party.

Ms Le Pen insisted on Tuesday she did not commit any offence.

Mr. Cat, A serious question for you. How long into the reign of the Selfie-King, before he introduces anti-blasphemy legislation, that will result in you and I getting hauled off before a newly empowered human right’s commission?
    We. Are. So. Screwed.

Although I’m not Mr. Cat, the ability of Obama to introduce such legislation is ZERO. His legislation ability has ground to a halt and he only has a year left in office.
Even if he did manage to somehow get it introduced and passed in both the house and senate, it would die a quick death as soon as the Supreme court got their hands on it.

Legislation isn’t always legislated, if you know what I mean. Obama prefers to work around Congress, using regulatory powers that can’t be challenged and right now the administration, through the FCC and DHS, is working on a way to punish “extremist speech” online. It’s not too far a stretch, if any, to think blasphemy could be included within so-called extremist speech. Of course, a new president could quickly reverse that by forcing the FCC and DHS to change their regulations or via an executive order – if he or she wanted to. I’m not convinced that our current candidates, excepting Mr. Trump, would have the balls to do that.

I am not Mr. Cat either, btw. But I did stay at a cathouse once. Okay, I’ll admit to twice thrice.

Would it? Hasn’t the US supreme court made some pretty wacky ruling that to people who don’t have the wisdom of our learned leaders look just flat out wrong? I know they have in Canada. In Canada the supremes pretty much make up the law as they go along.

        • Drunk_by_Noon

Even then I highly doubt it.

There is more of a likelihood of the 3rd and 4th infantry divisions doing thunder runs down the waterfront of Toronto and then only stopping to pull down the Jack Layton statue with a tank before we called it a day and went home.
Now that I think about it, that would look pretty bitchin’.
It would be real hard to explain away the next day however.

Hope yer right. Remember the Kelo case? Not free speech but a totally insane supreme court decision non the less.

The entire socialist french govt should be on trial for inciting genocide of the French people. Their entire nation should rise up and hang Holland and the rest of his govt.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you …. then … what’s that last step; I can’t remember …

And they have the nerve to conduct this farcical show trial right in the middle of a full-scale Mohammedan invasion of Europe.

    Guillotine! Guillotine! Guillotine!

She made an honest and totally accurate comparison. She deserves a metal of honour instead of this charade which is equivalent of what we saw with the communist Chinese Red Guards.

I know this is probably misogynistic, but I have been completely surprised to discover all of my heroes are women.

  • Xavier

You would think the French, of all people, would know how to handle this.
1789 comes to mind, for instance…

  • pdxnag

The process is punishment, at the very least.
