Facts and figures – Is the terrorism threat in Canada real and imminent (Harper) or cynically inflated (Mulcair and Trudeau)?

The terrorism threat in Canada was one of the major issues of the election campaign. Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, keeps warning of the global jihadism that targets the West, including Canada. Both NDP leader, Thomas Mulcair and Liberal leader Justin Trudeau accuse Harper of Islamophobia and inflating the threat of terrorism to play up fear and division in society. During the Munk debate, Trudeau said that Harper has tried to scare Canadians into believing “a terrorist is hiding behind every rock and tree.”
