Election 2015 - 2

‘Shy Tories’ among poll oddities #elxn42

Polls. Rhymes with trolls, highway tolls and toilet rolls. Good for dogs, strippers, skiers and barbers.

By now, you must be sick to death of them.

Hardly a day has gone by in this federal campaign without some dude named Ipsos, Angus, Reid, Leger, Abacus or Nanos telling us what we think.

I believe we are witnessing this in the current campaign.

My prediction for the record – a Conservative majority.

  • I think the results will surprise us.

  • Rosenmops

I hope you are right! I seem to be surrounded by idiots who think Harper is basically Hitler. Even my four year old grand daughter was telling me how evil Harper is when I was driving her to her dance lessons–she heard her parents say this, I suppose. Facebook seems to be full of anti-Harper stuff posted by all my young relatives. The younger generation seems to have collectively lost their minds.

    • If Harper is so evil, why haven’t they been arrested for criticising him?

      • Clausewitz

Don’t bring rational thought into this debate, Progressives don’t do rational thought.

        • Justin St.Denis

Unfortunately, neither do the vast majority of young voters.

          • Jabberwokk

            we’re airheads.

        • There is a reason why I don’t call leftists/liberals “progressive”.

          • Clausewitz

Other than the fact that they are totally regressive in their thought? Yeah I get your point, but that is was they identify as, so who am I to piss on their delusions.

          • If one could clone Cro-Magnon man, HE would be more progressive than they.

Don’t let these jackholes define the narrative. It fries them when one calls them regressive or pansies or some such thing.

    • Clausewitz

Screw ’em, it’s their future they’re going to destroy. With my health I only give myself about 10 more years, they’ll have 50 to 60 years of serfdom to live through. I have a niece who’s the same when it comes to her irrational love for Trudeau. I tried to tell her about Trudeaumania and the damage it inflicted on Canada, but she’s fallen for that hopey changy bullshit.

    • Clink9

Canadians are so used to paying high taxes they don’t even think about it. They think it’s the gubmints right to pillage their paycheque.

    • Rosenmops

      Damn I hope you’re wrong.

  • No reason to give up on a Tory majority. Polls are sometimes accurate, sometimes they’re not — it’s flip of the coin. Pollsters consistently showed Rob Ford as trailing, and he won the Toronto Mayoralty by a landslide. And the only pollsters that proved bang-on accurate in the last Federal Election were the ones hired by the now-defunct Sun News Network.

    • dance…dancetotheradio

All of these polls seem inconsistent this time around.

  • k1962

    I hope you’re right, but being a pessimist, I think you’re reaching…

  • Jay Currie

Funny, I just blogged the same thing. https://jaycurrie.wordpress.com/2015/10/14/splits-elxn42/

    180+ seats.

But I have a long record of election prediction failure.

Logic is that neither the NDP or the Libs have closed the deal as the go to anti Harper party. So now they split the vote.

I suspect it will be a long night unless a) Harper gains seriously in Quebec which he might, b) the JT surge touted by the media and the pollsters is confined to the territory visible from the top of the CN tower.

  • I believe in the efficacy of optimism.

    • Clausewitz

Right up until your heart gets broken. Never underestimate the sheer stupidity of the voting public.

      • Let’s wait and see. Better just suffer after, than both before and after. There is every reason to hope that most Canadians will prove responsible and wise.

        • Clausewitz

Problem is, is that Ontario and Quebec hold the Lion’s shares of the seats in Parliament. Those two provinces are filled with self centred, grasping morons.

  • David Murrell

I disagree with you, Catfur, and the majority opinion on this thread. I agree with Mr. Currie’s remarks that it will be a long night for conservatives. The corporate media villification of Harper is too intense, and Trudeau has all the powerful interest groups in his hip pocket. The Monday election will be like that for the Ontario election writ large.

Sorry. I do wish for a last-minute surprise. But the powerful establishment elite will have its revenge.

Toronto Star and Crescent is giddy with an anticipated Turdeau win…. publishing articles on how Pakisauga council loves Mo’s … and letters to the editor on how Mo’s should vote:

Yup according to the Star – the next 4 years are going to be ones of Mo prosperity in Canada…and evil Harper, Netanyahu and Israel are finished.

There are large numbers of ignorant people who chose their political comfort zone with the same care they put into being the know nothing fans of various sports teams and entertainers.
You can tell TV is the main battleground because the stuff left at the door is barely able to compete with a pizza flyer.
