‘Minority report’ algorithm can spot violent crimes among soldiers before they happen

Predicting crime has been a staple of scifi movies for decades – but the US Army says it now has a working system.

Using the military records of all 975,057 soldiers who served during a six-year period, researchers have developed an algorithm to predict which soldiers would subsequently commit a ‘severe physical violent crime’.

The system is designed to allow those at risk to be given counseling or another intervention.
