Russia: Chechnya mayor bans cake-cutting at weddings

The capital of the majority-Muslim Russian republic of Chechnya has banned cake cutting and “indecent” dance moves from traditional Chechen weddings as being too “Western”.

    Cutting the cake is offensive?
Never mind that Chechnya is a country with a tradition of ‘bride kidnapping’.

And since the BBC doesn’t go into detail or use certain words (‘Islam’, ‘Islamic’ ‘Muslim’), the reader is left to figure out the root of the story for themselves.

Domestic help Kasturi Munirathinam, a 58-year-old Indian woman, had her right arm chopped off when she tried to escape from her Saudi “employer”.
Obviously an employee severance package means something different in Riyadh.

“I’m not really sure, your honour,” he testified, “but it seems to me that everything was going fine for me until the day I cut a wedding cake. After that, the dreams started. Then the nightmares. The urges to eat the eyeballs of other people didn’t start happening until the next year, I swear to you!”

Could this be a translation error? Perhaps meant cheese, not cake?

I suppose firing guns in the air is OK. Falling bullets might eliminate a few of these idiots.

Does this apply to wedding cakes made for gay couples made by Christian bakeries!
